CJCA continue to hold a strong financial position recording a surplus for the year of $28,757 (up from $14,233 last year) and total accumulated funds of $313,095 (up from $284,338 last year). Of the annual surplus of $28,757, an amount of $7,808 relates to GST from the previous year, so the true surplus for the year is $20,949. Also to note, the figures in the Statement of Financial Performance (Profit & Loss) for 2013 are exclusive of GST whereas the 2012 figures are inclusive of GST. This is a change in accounting policy from the previous year. This change is important to note when comparing this year revenue and expense figures with last years. This change will help to provide a clearer picture of actual revenue and expense impacts for the association going forward without GST impacting on the Profit & Loss and annual surplus.

Some key variations explained from the financial statements:

 Slight decrease in levies for the year in line with the reduced team numbers for the season (a decrease of $861 after allowing for year to year difference in GST accounting policy)  Grants/Sponsorship Income down by $8,643 from last year after allowing for grants that relate to the next financial year  Administration costs up on the prior year due to Canterbury hosting the South Island Primary Schools Tournament and an associated increase in the amount paid to Barry Hazeldine for additional work involved  Increased advertising costs incurred on the lead in to the season starting

During this financial year I have implemented an accounting software package (Xero) to maintain the financial records for the CJCA, rather than just relying on spreadsheets. This will provide increased reliability and integrity of our financial information and provide a platform for additional financial information being provided to the committee on a regular basis.

I wish to in particular thank Dave Gallop once again for providing us free of charge his expertise and experience in completing our audit and being able to complete this in quick fashion prior to going away on holiday.

I would also like to thank Derek Cockburn for his continued support and guidance throughout 2012/2013, his passion and enthusiasm for Junior Cricket is inspirational and his mentoring has been invaluable. Thank you for your continued support.

I would also like to thank Peter Hay, Barry Hazeldine and the rest of our committee for their support throughout 2012/13, I have enjoyed my role as Treasurer and my passion and commitment to Junior Cricket in Christchurch is enhanced by the dedicated committee I work with.
