NEWSPAPER ARTICLES Vocal Band Club For Five

Jukka Hauru / Helsingin Sanomat Newspaper:

"The performance of Club For Five was technically and musically top-class throughout all the singers."

Janne Kuusinen /Desibeli.net:

"`Ensi-ilta´ (or `Premiere´ in English), the debut album of Club For Five, is the most chuckling, brilliant, touching, humorous and amusing Finnish release of the year 2004."

Markus Määttänen & Johanna Vehkoo / Aamulehti Newspaper:

” The best Finnish a cappella” - Club For Five is a virtuosic a cappella group. On Wednesday evening, the whole audience in the show pavilion was charmed by this five member ensemble. The group was cheered back on stage twice by loud applause and a third time would not have hurt either. The group of Susanna Hietala, Ninni Poijärvi, Jouni Kannisto, Tuomas Ahola and Tuukka Haapaniemi merged brilliantly salsa, jazz, tango, samba with old familiar songs, and all this without any instrument. The group’s arrangement for Paula Koivuniemi´s song “Tumma silmät, ruskea tukka” simply blows you away. “Mikki Hiiri merihädässä”, “Armas Elaine” (familiar from the Velipuolikuu show) and even the Spice Girls´ “Wannebe” got all just as a surprising and fascinating interpretation. Club For Five is like the Basement Jaxx of a cappella. More of this, please!"

Mikko Nortela / Karjalainen Newspaper:

"You just have to be amazed by all the kind of sounds one can make with a simple human voice – when you know what your´re doing."

Olli Varonen / Kangasniemen Kunnallislehti Newspaper:

"I would have to be a poet to be able to express in words Ninni Poijärvi´s supple soprano, that takes away a man’s own will. So that I could convey to you the charm of Susanna Hietala´s saxophone solo, that melts down a serious Finnish man. So that I could express in words the (sex) appeal of Tuomas Ahola as a hunk of rock. Jouni Kannisto´s “electrical”guitar and his charisma on stage like one of the lion’s …if only I could be a poet. When talking about Tuukka Haapaniemi, you can`t even imagine what you would want to be. His imaginative and brilliant “drum set” and “upright bass” can take away your requisites for sensible thinking for a moment."

Ari-Pekka Sarjanto / Hämeenlinnan Kaupunkiuutiset Newspaper: NEWSPAPER ARTICLES Vocal Band Club For Five "Tuomas Ahola, Ninni Poijärvi, Jouni Kannisto, Tuukka Haapaniemi and Susanna Hietala, who moved into Hämeenlinna last Spring, charmed the audience with a world-class a cappella and vocal acrobatics."

Sirpa Tarkkinen /Pohjalainen Newspaper:

"You rarely get to see a perfect performance. Though, a perfect performance was experienced in the Vaasa Choir Festival when an a cappella group called Club For Five performed to a sold out concert hall in the city theatre."

Hanne Orrenmaa-Ruuskanen / Ilkka Newspaper:

"How smooth and easy a cappella singing can be at its best – even handling the tough modulation parts seemed to be like a walk in a park for the singers!"

Kirsti Vanninen /Aamulehti Newspaper:

"From the very beginning Club For Five has been a refreshing exception among the Finnish vocal ensembles."

Olli Vuorio / Hämeen Sanomat Newspaper:

"Regular band players could be phasing some tough times, if all singers could imitate instruments as well [as Club For Five]."
