BEHIND THE SCENES AT UTTOXETER RACECOURSE – 24 July 2016 Fun race day for all the family and the opportunity to ride a mechanical horse. Put the date in your diary for a great family day out. It is open to everyone, no age or ability limits, no ponies required. Carrie Ford from Race to School (formally BHEST British Horseracing Education & Standards Trust) will carry out the tour of the racecourse starting from the weighing room at 12.30pm, two hours before the first race, but there is a pony race scheduled before racing. The plan is to meet at 12.30 at the weighing room to start the tour there, looking at the scales, facilities etc, we will then move on to the track to talk about going, distances etc, from there we'll probably watch the pony race then go to the saddling boxes, paddock and so on. We will get to look in the Stewards Room, Judges Box, Photo finish and other usually off limits areas, a real 'behind the scenes' tour. Race to School are bringing in a lot of 'kit' to show us and we will have use of their Equicisor for a taste of race riding. Everyone is welcome, no age or ability limits. The tour is scheduled for Sunday 24th July which is the Summer Family Fun Day at Uttoxeter so everyone is very welcome to stay on and watch the racing, there are 7 races due to take place and there will be lots of other entertainment in the centre of the course. Under 18s are free and I am currently negotiating with the racecourse for a discount for the parents! If you are interested in attending then please e-mail Rebecca Cameron on [email protected] to let her know.

Instruction will start on Sunday morning and we will use the same formula as last year, discipline specific, for the more confident riders. Those who are coming to camp for the first time or are a bit nervous will have an instructor to look after them for the whole week to support and encourage. We have the same team of Camp Staff as last year, Karen Jordan as Camp Mum, Helena Freer Stable Manager, Val Brown to look after the Instructors, myself as organiser and, possibly the most important, Catherine Tipping on Catering. We will also be supported by Junior Staff in the day and night staff. Our aim is to educate and encourage whilst having fun. We had a great camp last year with new friendships forged, as well as lots of smiles and happy faces by the end. Hopefully this year the weather may be a bit kinder to us.
