PRESIDENTS REPORT

They certainly breed ‘em tough at Kurrimine Beach. Tough fish, tough boats, tough boat ramps and tough weather……..however the fishermen and women who have ventured offshore during recent weeks have been well and truly rewarded for their efforts.

Last months KBFC AGM was extremely well attended by 24 members. Whilst everyone would like to acknowledge the commitment of the old committee, I am reassured of our continued success as we confront the difficult challenges that arise from time to time. I look forward to working with the new committee and congratulate all memebbrs on their contribution to our fishing club. The new executive committee includes; Vice President- Dave McGuire Secretary- Tony Corby Assitant Secretary - ? Treasurer- Geoff Robards Club Captain- Sally Maley

The 2012 inaugural Kurrimine Beach, Creek and Outer Reef Fishing Competition continues to evolve. At this stage we thank the King Reef Resort who firmed their major sponsorship of the fishing competition

Kurrimine Beach Fishing Club January 2012 Newsletter with the purchase of a 399 Proline Angler Tinnie valued at $14000.00. All fully paid adult entrants in the Kurrimine Beach, Creek and Outer Reef Fishing Tournament will be eligible to win the tinnie simply by paying their entry fee which will give them automatic inclusion in the Adult Super Draw Prize. Several meetings have been conducted to further advance the competition. At this stage we have booked the big event for Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September 2012. We are keen to secure sponsorship for the smaller tackle prizes and more substantial financial backing. Please contact a committee member if you have an idea.

CLUB CAPTAINS REPORT

Why is it that- the most productive fishing spots are always kept secret?

Some local KBFC legends have braved the inconsistent weather for mixed results during March and April. The word on the water is that the deep water is fishing the best however Terry Taifalos recently landed only one Spanish Mackeral from five strikes. Whilst this could suggest that Terry needs to let Alex take the strike perhaps the fish aren’t really on the bite at this early stage. Better luck next time Terry!

Please make an effort to spread the word to all fellow fishers from near and far about our fishing comp in September. Now that the paperwork has been finalized we are keen to promote the family friendly competition to ensure we have a healthy crowd. The Brag night which has been planned for the Saturday night promises to be lots of fun. As the comp will be held on the first weekend of the holidays we anticipate many families to visit Kurrimine Beach which should help promote local businesses.

Tide Charts

However alternative tide charts kindly donated by Sam Pagano have been made available at the service station and King Reef Hotel. Consequently our new tide charts will be effective for the financial year…….June 2012 – June 2013.

Kurrimine Beach Fishing Club January 2012 Newsletter Two Hook Pilchard Rig

The two hook pilchard rigs shown above allows the fishermen to insert one hook through the hard skull of the bait fish while the second hook secures the tail of the fish by being hooked around the backbone of the bait fish.

NOTE : The two hook rig works much better, and gives a far greater hook-up rate, if the bait fish is put the other way around with the head on the bottom hook.
