Important Reminders – CogAT testing next week – Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday Science test on Thursday, December 10th

Literacy/Reading – The next two weeks will be spent identifying the main idea of a nonfiction text. Over the following two weeks, the kids will practice this skill by reading short passages, then identifying the main idea as well as the supporting details.

Math – Next week, the kids will be taking the CogAT tests during our math block. After testing, we will start module 5. The topics that will be covered:  Comparing and ordering thousandths  Rounding thousandths  Rounding all decimal fractions  Adding decimal fractions with regrouping  Adding more than two fractions  Describing polygons  Identifying parallelograms  Exploring categories of Quadrilaterals  Identifying categories of triangles

Science – The students will be taking their last chapter test of our Life Science unit next Thursday. They will receive a study guide today to start preparing for the assessment. Our next unit will be Physical Science. During this unit, the children will learn how matter can change. The first chapter will cover physical and chemical changes.

Social Studies – We are about to meet George Washington, the President of the United States. Over the next two weeks, we will learn how he organized the Executive branch, how the political parties emerged and how the location and design of the nation’s capital was decided upon.
