RESEARCH NEWS IN THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION IN DECEMBER 2007 RESEARCH NEWS and ACHIEVEMENTS Inaugural professorial lecture Professor Timperley gave her inaugural lecture on November 7th. The address was very well- attended by Faculty staff, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education and other guests. Thank you Helen for the contribution you have made to the research profile and academic life of the Faculty. ______Congratulations Dr Jenny Harnett & Dr. Dawn Garbett Jenny Harnett has been informed that she has met the requirements of the PhD at Massey University. Well done Jenny. Congratulations too, to Dawn Garbett who has graduated with her PhD from Monash University. ______The Rae Munro Award for the best Teacher Education Masters thesis was presented at the NZARE annual conference this week to Rena Heap from the School of Science, Maths and Technology in our Faculty. Well done Rena. This is a highly competitive award and we are thrilled you have been awarded this honour.

REPORT ON THE FACULTY STAFF RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT DAY – BEST EVIDENCE SYNTHESES PRESENTATION ON 23 NOVEMBER Thank you to the presenters and all the staff who participated in the Faculty’s first research development day. Dr Langley opened the day by welcoming everyone. Professor Viviane Robertson provided background about the methodology for the three iterative best evident syntheses which were then presented throughout the day. Dr Graeme Aitken, Dr Claire Sinnema, Dr Helen Timperley, Aaron Wilson, Heather Barrar, Professor Viviane Robinson and Dr Margie Hohepa all provided a stimulating and engaging programme.

LATEST CHANGES TO RIMS

The number of entries of Faculty research outputs into RIMS continues to rise steadily. Thank you to all staff members who have taken the time to update their profiles. For those of you who feel you need a ‘refresher’, or support with technical issues using the system, don’t forget Melissa is available for individual support sessions and is more than happy to field queries about the changes to RIMS. Please note the changes: 1) The ARR (Annual Research Report) now includes Peer Esteem and Contribution to the Research Environment items as well as any research contracts administered through the Research Office for the year. 2) There is an improved search facility allowing for multiple year searching. 3) Internal contributors to research outputs can now be searched by UPI. 4) There is a pre-defined report that will show the research outputs that you are a contributor to that have been added since you last logged into RIMS.
