PLC FALL ACTIVITIES 2012

Fall Retreat at Kaw Lake – PLC students and sponsors from Enid, Tonkawa and Stillwater participated in a two day retreat with Dr. Evans. The retreat was filled with fellowship, fun, and numerous leadership development activities.

Cherokee Strip Parade Float – Enid PLC students constructed a NOC float for the Cherokee Strip parade which remains on display in the Mabee Center. Miss NOC and our mascot were passengers on the float with PLC students passing out candy to the children attending the parade.

Mind Games Competition – 4 Enid PLC students competed in the Fall Mind Games Competition. The Mind Games Competition is sponsored by The Chickasaw Nation, First United Bank and Trust of Durant, and OERB. Enid PLC members Matt Lewis, Amanda Hladik, Shane Mullen and Andy Meier participated in the fall competition and won $3500 for the NOC Enid General Scholarship Fund.

Snow Bowl Competition – 8 Enid PLC students participated in the National Academic Quiz Tournament at Cowley County Community College.

Blood Drive – Enid PLC students partnered with the Oklahoma Blood Institute and Jessy Dershem. NOC Enid has been conducting the blood drive for several years. This was the largest turnout we have ever had. We had a total of 102 donors. Prior to this, 62 donors had been the record. The success of this drive can be attributed to the Enid PLC students creating a student committee chaired by Andy Meier. This committee committed to speaking to as many faculty, staff and students about the benefits of the blood drive as possible to increase awareness. The PLC students received special recognition from the OBI during halftime of a basketball game.

Murder Mystery – Enid PLC Students joined the PLC students from Tonkawa and Stillwater to participate in a Murder Mystery dinner at the Stone Lion Inn in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Each participant assumed the identity of a character upon arriving and everyone attempted to solve the mystery throughout the evening.

Student Leadership Challenge – The students read the Student Leadership Challenge by James Kouzes and Barry Posner. The text included numerous challenging questions that helped develop skills that challenge the PLC students to become exemplary leaders on campus.

Community Outreach – The Enid PLC students have completed a community outreach program. The program is tied to the NOC Enid Jets home basketball games. The PLC students visit each of the area elementary schools and interact with the students and invite them to a home basketball game. The students also include a local church and a local business to sponsor each of the home basketball games. The Enid News and Eagle donates advertisement space to recognize our guests and sponsors for each game. The PLC students also are responsible for halftime entertainment to improve the overall game experience.

Prevention Workz – The Enid PLC students donated their time to work with Prevention Workz, Enid Police Department and the Garfield County Sheriff’s office to help combat underage drinking in Garfield County.
