Discovery Gateway Names New Executive Director Board of Directors Selects Maria S. Farrington to Lead Children’s Museum

Salt Lake City, September 26, 2007 – David Simmons, chairman of the board of directors at Discovery Gateway, today announced the appointment of Maria S. Farrington as executive director. Ms. Farrington, a former board member of the museum, has been serving as interim executive director of the organization since April 1, 2007.

“Discovery Gateway is a new facility with a dedicated, dynamic staff,” said Ms. Farrington. “I’m very excited for the future and the potential that is in store for us. Discovery Gateway is a wonderful institution, a place where discovery and learning are always occurring.”

Ms. Farrington previously served as director of programs and initiatives at Centro de la Familia de Utah. She has worked in management at the United Way of Salt Lake, the Salt Lake City School District, and Communities in School-San Antonio, where she served as president and executive director. She was the recipient of the Governor’s Hispanic Leadership and Community Service Award, and named as YWCA Outstanding Leader in Human Services. She currently serves on the boards of Holy Cross Ministries, Barbara & Norman Tanner Center for Non-Violence at the University of Utah, and KRCL Community Radio.

Simmons also announced that Steven Oster, CEO of the Boyer Company, was elected to serve as chairman of the board of directors for the upcoming year. Scott Tanner, CEO of Juice-It was elected vice-chair. Dorothy Pleshe of Larry H. Miller Group will continue to serve as secretary, and Rick Manning continues as treasurer.
