Ray Martrano

Ray is a Penn State graduate with a BS in Chemical Engineering with 25 plus years of experience in environmental sciences field. He started his career working at Science Applications International Corporation’s (SAIC) environmental chemistry laboratory as a GC and GC/MS chemist. He later progressed to an engineering role working on EPA’s Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation (SITE) Program. Here he studied and participated in field testing and evaluation of new and innovative remediation technologies which included chemical, thermal, physical, and biological technologies. With his laboratory foundation, he was responsible for designing and implementing sampling and laboratory work plans and held titles from Field Sampler to Project Manager. He closely interacted with contracted laboratories auditing their facilities and interpreting data generated from the demonstration test of these innovative technologies. Later in his career he moved to Analytical Laboratory Services Inc. (ALSI) and served as the Laboratory Manager and Technical Director overseeing all departments of this full service environmental chemistry laboratory. He later moved to Microbac Laboratories Inc. and served as Division Manager overseening laboratory operations. The division Ray managed was heavily involved with EPA’s Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR2) and drinking water testing. Presently, Ray is the Laboratory Director at Seewald Laboratories Inc. in Williamsport, PA. Seewald is a full service environmental testing laboratory that has become a leader in private water testing services to support the expanding Marcellus shale exploration activities in the north central Pennsylvania areas. Ray is here to today to talk about dissolved gas analysis.
