Rachel won more than $25,000 in 20 college scholarships and the title of Miss America’s Outstanding 21 Teen 2013; and 22 23 Whereas, this historic crowning moment marked her first steps on 24 a journey that will take her across the country promoting scholastic 25 achievement, creative accomplishment, community involvement, 26 and healthy living for our nation’s youth. Rachel, a Piedmont 27 native, won the hearts of the audience and judges when she 28 performed a lyrical dance to “The Climb”; and 29 30 Whereas, Rachel will be starting her senior year at Wren High 31 School and serves as president of her class, yearbook editor, and 32 member of the National Honor Society; and 33 34 Whereas, in addition, she will be traveling the country speaking to 35 audiences about her platform, Dance TherapyMiracles through 36 Movement, and acting as the teen ambassador for Children’s 37 Miracle Network Hospitals, the national platform of the Miss 38 America’s Outstanding Teen Organization; and 39 40 Whereas, Rachel is one quarter Japanese and comes from a diverse 41 family background. She enjoys sewing and fashion design and has 42 trained under famous dance choreographers such as Mandy Moore,

An assistant in teaching a 2 specialneeds dance class, Rachel has danced as part of a 3 Bibleteaching ministry at a maximumsecurity women’s prison; and 4 5 Whereas, after completing a bachelor’s degree in English, she 6 hopes to pursue a career in speech therapy. Rachel also would like 7 to continue dancing in local theater productions and serve as a 8 dance instructor; and 9 10 Whereas, during her reign as Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, 11 Rachel Wyatt has provided a gracious and graceful role model that 12 represents the combined qualities of intellect, talent, loveliness, 13 and charm admired by all who know her. Now, therefore, 14 15 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 16 17 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 18 by this resolution, congratulate Rachel Wyatt, Miss America’s 19 Outstanding Teen 2013, and commend her for the discipline, 20 aspirations, and talent that have enabled her to represent the 21 Palmetto State and this nation with dignity and poise. 22 23 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to 24 Rachel Wyatt. 25 XX 26
