Lesson Plan title: What activities would you do as Autumn? A Creative Writing Activity

Subject: Reading

Grade Level: 4

Unit: Theme 3, Selection 1 The Stranger

Objective(s):

 Students will write 5 or more lines to tell you activities that they would do if they were Autumn to demonstrate comprehension and knowledge acquisition.

Students will need to know how to open Microsoft Word to create a document. Students may enhance their poetry using various formatting tools (font, style, color, size). Students will need to save the created document to their personalized folders.

Procedure:

1. Students come to the computer lab, turn on the computers, log-in, and launch Microsoft Word. Students type the title "Things I would do as Autumn." Then students each create brief poem (at least 5 lines) listing various activities they would do as the season of autumn. Each line should begin with a verb and end with a period. Students should type their names beneath their poem. Finally, students may change the font, style, color, size, etc. of their poems. They may also check their spelling using the Spell Check tool. Students should save their document in personalized folders. Click "File" then select "Save as." Each student needs to double click on his/her folder, then name the file "things to do as autumn".

Evaluate students using a simple rubric:

4-Student typed 5 lines of Autumn activities. Every line begins with a verb and ends with a period. Student enhanced poem using at least 4 formatting tools (color, size, font, and style)

3-Student typed 5 lines of Autumn activities. Most lines begin with a verb and end with a period. Student enhanced poem using at least 3 formatting tools (color, size, font, or style)

2-Student typed 3-4 lines of Autumn activities. Some lines begin with a verb and end with a period. Student enhanced poem using at least 2 formatting tools(color, size, font, or style).

1-Student typed 2 or less lines of Autumn activities. Few lines begin with a verb and end with a period. Student enhanced poem using at least 1 formatting tool (color, size, font, or style).
