FUNDING PROPOSALS: 4 November 2006 Rural Health Network Development grant combining rural hospitals and physicians to create a network for sharing patient information through a encrypted internet connection by funding the distribution of smart cards to patients, and readers and software to doctors and hospitals. Submitted November, 2006 for $540,000 for three years. October 2006 Quality Enhancement Project Grant pairing a sophomore level Health Promotion class with a junior level Community Health Class to prepare and present a health education presentation, in order to recruit people into the Community Health Program by exposing them to the work of the Health Educator. Funded for $8,500 for one semester.

April 2006 Carol M White Physical Education Program Grant combining Kingsville ISD and Texas A&M University – Kingsville. PEP STEPS Physical Education Program – South Texas Exercise Program. An after school program to increase physical activity of students and to meet or exceed the Texas State Standards for Physical Education. $980,000 Not submitted due to illness of the superintendent of KISD.

March 2005 Quality Enhancement Project Grant – Grant to combine community service and course work for students. Funded 2005 for $8500

February 2004 USDA CSREES Grant for Hispanic Serving Institutions – A grant that would establish a Community Health Degree with a Nutrition minor; incorporates an articulation agreement with Odessa College (2+2 Agreement); and creates an online degree program in Community Health/Nutrition. Not funded

March 2004 Regent’s Initiative for Excellence in Education – Fellowship Grant Proposed the creation of a pre/posttest for the American Institute for Cancer Research’s “New American Plate” for portions in nutrition $3000 Funded March 2004

2001 National Institute on Health Grant to implement a prevention strategy for HIV. This grant was a collaborative effort between Texas Woman’s University, Denton Department of Health and Denton HIV project.  Project was not funded

2001 United States Department of Agriculture, Progressive Intergenerational Community grant to increase the numbers of young people residing in rural communities and reduce the number of older people being admitted into long-term care facilities. This grant was in collaboration between Baylor University and Texas County Extensive Service.  Grant not funded

1999- 2002 Administration on Aging Patrol Grant to reduce fraud, waste and abuse in the Medicare System.  Grant funded: $450,000 for three years  Not funded for the 2002-2005 years due to the ending of the gerontology department at Baylor University
