Parents Forum 14.6.17

Mrs Gower opened with a prayer for the families affected by the fire in London

Apologies from Mrs Harvey

Actions from last meeting  Year 1 teacher was spoken to about reading and homework. Mrs Gower explained homework is always based on the learning taught in the class as it is an opportunity to consolidate. The year 1 parent representative said that there had been no further concerns about this.  There are definitely more children in the gold book – Mrs Gower felt this was because of the new excellent learner displays as children understand the skills better.  Mrs Gower apologised for not putting a notice for parents to suggest trip ideas or offer their services for a club in the newsletter but assured the parents forum that it would go in this week.  A year 2 and 6 parent meeting was held to explain how the SAT’s would work in those year groups. It was attended by roughly 6 parents from each year group.  There was a governors table at parents evening and more questionnaires were sent out.  It had been agreed previously that the parents forum would create a conduct agreement but the need for this no longer seems to present. If it is felt that need reoccurs then we will consider it again.  Looking into an option for parents to pay online. Mrs Gower explained that there are concerns around account information being shared, so are looking into this.

New Information from school  Mrs Gower shared that school ping would be going live on Friday and said that logins, alongside a letter to explain how it works, would be sent home.  Mrs Gower asked parents if they had seen the website and asked if the PTA would like a section on it. The website will be static and won’t have photos constantly uploaded to it – these will now be found on DB Primary (online learning environment) which both parents and pupils will have access to. This will not be going live until September and will provide staff with the opportunity to set online homework.  Miss Putnam shared that the school also has a twitter account.

Information from parents Year R  Spelling are set inconsistently – could this be addressed  Parents really liked how the giant came to class – it captivated and engaged the children  Everyone spoken to is looking forward to ping

Year 1  No concerns

Year 2  School trips. Mrs Gower asked how much parents would be willing to pay - because teachers are looking and trying all options but a coach is likely to cost £25 per child. Mrs Gower suggested trying a pre-letter to see interest. o A parent suggested asking parents to pay a little each month so it was never one big hit o Another parent said are we making the most of Greenwich as it is a bus ride away o It was also suggested how interesting Dockland Museum was and that it was free  Reading books are being changed when not finished

Year 3  Children were late leaving school one evening due to an incident at home time – some parents had mentioned this.

Year 4  Girls are not allowed to play football by the boys – Mrs Gower explained that as leaders we didn’t think girls wanted to play but we are more than happy to set up a girl’s tournament at lunchtime as long as there are enough girls interested to create two teams.

Year 5  Positive feedback on the website – calendar is not live. Mrs Gower stated that it is now.  Notes from parent’s forum are not online – Mrs Gower said she would check this.  This terms curriculum is not on the website – Mrs Gower said that this was being addressed.  A parent wanted to know if the results from the tests they were sitting this week (GL Assessments) would be shared with parents. Miss Putnam explained that they would be on the end of year reports.  One parent wanted feedback if a child was going for intervention – Mrs Gower explained that logistically this was very difficult as throughout the year groups change due to rates of progress. However the main person who leads intervention (Miss Haycock) is always available at parents evening if parents wish to speak to her about an intervention their child has been in.  Another parent was very grateful for the little notes sent home from early morning maths. They found them very useful.

Year 6  No comments

Mrs Gower ended the meeting by asking parents if they had a representative collection of comments – all said yes. She then asked if they would like to continue next year – again they said yes and finally she finished with a prayer.
