Call for Registration and Paper Presentations Central States Entomological Society Annual Meeting 05 (evening) - 06 May 2006 University of Missouri-Columbia

Where: University of Missouri-Columbia. 05 May (Friday Evening), Monsanto Auditorium, Life Sciences Center; 06 May (Saturday), Monsanto Auditorium and Adjoining Atrium, Life Sciences Center, located one block southeast of the Memorial Union at the intersection of Rollins Road and College Avenue. Program Highlights:

Friday night (05 May) we will have a reception in the Atrium outside Monsanto Auditorium in the Life Sciences Center, followed by a Keynote Speaker: Prof. Berthold Hoelldobler, Arizona State University, Title: “Order in Chaos: Communication and Cooperation in Ant Societies”.

Saturday (06 May) we will provide a continental breakfast, followed by a new movie by Prof. Hoelldobler entitled "Ants: The Secret Power of Nature", and then presentations of oral papers and posters by the attendees.

A developing Program outline is provided separately. You will receive periodic updates to this by e-mail as it is completed.

Registration: A registration form is provided with this e- mail. Registration fees (which will help pay the costs of the meetings) will be $45 for professionals and $25 for students. On-site registration will also be available.

Presented Papers and Posters: There will be an opportunity for both 15 minute presented papers (10-12 minutes presentation and a question period afterward) and posters. We currently have display space for 30 posters, and will provide more space if more is needed. Presented papers will be registered on a first-come first-serve basis until our afternoon presented paper slots are filled. The registration form provides a space to register a paper or poster. Register a presentation or poster by 15 April.

Student Competition: There will be 2 student competitions: one each for the best poster and best oral paper. The registration form provides a space to register a paper or poster for the competition. Winning entries will be awarded $50.

Displays: If you wish to display literature or other items from your program, please contact Jim Carrel (see contact information below). We can provide a limited number of tables for such displays.

Lodging: No specific arrangements for lodging have been made. There are lots of rooms in Columbia, MO. The Columbia Visitor's and Convention Bureau site provides easy room registration at http://www.visitcolumbiamo.com. The most convenient lodgings to the meetings will be at the Regency Hotel Downtown, 1111 E. Broadway, or at the Campus Inn, 1112 Stadium Blvd. Both motels are modest in quality, but they are less than one mile from the Life Sciences Center. Two and three star hotels are further away, mostly near I-70.

Parking: The Virginia Avenue Parking Garage [VAG] is located one block south of the Life Sciences Center, off of Rollins Road. Parking on levels 1, 2, and 3 in the VAG is free on Friday after 5 p.m. and all day Saturday. Early arrivals on Fri. can find metered parking in Parking Lot CG-3 on the east side of the VAG.

How to find Parking and the Meetings: An interactive map of the MU campus is available online at http://map.missouri.edu. Using the gothic tower of the Memorial Union on Hitt Street as a landmark, the meetings and parking are 1 and 2 blocks southeast, respectively.
