4 RESOLUTION 2014-160-A 5 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SINCERE GRATITUDE TO 6 LISARAYE MCCOY “LISARAYE” FOR HER 7 EXTRAORDINARY CONTRIBUTION AND PARTICIPATION 8 IN JACKSONVILLE’S “BREAKING THE SILENCE OF 9 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DAY”; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE 10 DATE. 11

12 WHEREAS, LisaRaye McCoy “LisaRaye” was born in Chicago, the 13daughter of David Ray McCoy, a Chicago businessman and Katie McCoy, 14a former professional model; and 15 WHEREAS, LisaRaye attended Thornridge High School and Kenwood 16Academy before attending Eastern Illinois University before 17pursuing an acting career; and 18 WHEREAS, before acting, LisaRaye began her career as a model 19doing fashion shows in churches and high schools in her native home 20Chicago; and 21 WHEREAS, the former First lady of Turks and Caicos Islands is 22not only an accomplished actress but an entrepreneur in her right; 23and 24 WHEREAS, as the former First lady of Turks and Caicos Islands, 25she performed many humanitarian efforts in the underserved 26communities of Turks and Caicos; and 27 WHEREAS, LisaRaye, through the Lady Raye Foundation, provides 28a creative and inspirational outlet that young girls desperately 29need through the Miss Raye Diant Jewels Teen Pageant; and 30 WHEREAS, the Miss Raye Diant Jewels Teen Pageant offers girls

2 1an opportunity to expand their skilled and creative minds, overcome 2challenges like peer pressure and low self – esteem, have 3confidence and social skills, and allow them to grow and become the 4leaders of tomorrow; and 5 WHEREAS, LisaRaye is a Global Ambassador for the Susan G. 6Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Circle of Promise, and she has 7participated in The Race for a Cure both in Chicago and Houston; 8and 9 WHEREAS, LisaRaye joined former Speaker of the House Newt 10Gingrich and Civil Rights activist Reverend Al Sharpton on the 11“Listening and Learning” Tour; the team visited schools, where they 12interacted with students, teachers and parents about education 13reform; and 14 WHEREAS, as with her other philanthropic endeavors, LisaRaye 15has graciously agreed to lend her name to Jacksonville’s “Breaking 16the silence of domestic violence day” and will appear in 17Jacksonville on March 23, 2014, to help bring awareness to domestic 18violence; now therefore 19 BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Jacksonville: 20 Section 1. The City of Jacksonville hereby expresses its 21sincere gratitude to LisaRaye McCoy for her extraordinary 22contribution and participation in Jacksonville’s “Breaking the 23silence of domestic violence day.” 24 Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become 25effective upon signature by the Mayor or upon becoming effective 26without the Mayor's signature. 27Form Approved: 28
