Dear Applicant

Thank you for your interest in the post of Chief Executive for the Small Charities Coalition (SCC). The current post holder, John Barrett, has done much to make the charity more sustainable and to grow our staff team. He is leaving, after 10 years (three as CEO) and is looking for a new challenge, having accomplished most of what he wanted to achieve at SCC.

The SCC was established in 2008 in order to provide support to, and a voice for, the thousands of small charities that exist in the UK. We define small charities as those with an income of under £1 million. Our vision is of a strong, well equipped and more confident small charity sector, valued for the positive difference it makes in society. To this end we:

 Provide a range of services to small charities  Collaborate and build partnerships  Champion the role and impact of small charities

Our current strategic priorities, for the three years to the end of 2018, have been to grow the membership; develop a community portal online; extend out training programmes across the UK; strengthen our policy role; and build sustainability.

Our services to small charities include: skills sharing and mentoring; training events; trustee finder; help and advice. You can read more about these on our website. We currently have about 8,000 members and membership is free.

The SCC is a small charity itself, with an income of circa £173k (2015/16) and an enthusiastic team of 6 staff and 8 volunteers, working from a small office near London’s Elephant & Castle in SE17. There is a trustee board of 11 people who meet formally on a quarterly basis but do what they can to help, where they can, in between.

We are looking for a motivated, resourceful and effective leader with a track record of achievement to build on our recent successes; someone with the passion and ability to take us further along on our journey of excellence. You must be able to build strong and effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders and to manage complex situations. You must also be prepared to work as part of a small team in a very busy office with all that implies, such as rolling up your sleeves to get things done.

If you want to make a difference and are committed to supporting our work then please do apply.
