TRANSCAER® in ACTION!

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) has already started off the year with several events! January saw BNSF working with the state of Wyoming for their Winter Fire School. This was followed by numerous training opportunities in the state of Texas that included training for the Tarrant County, Haslet Fire Departments, Killeen Fire Department, and Cleburne area Fire Departments.

February saw BNSF training and drilling with Los Angeles County Fire and HazMat at Commerce City, CA. A large scale exercise in the covered trench rail section of the Alameda Corridor was staged and accomplished on February 16th. A large group of personnel from Los Angeles City, Los Angeles County, Vernon Fire and Compton Fire participated. Los Angeles County Environmental, FRA, AAR and a host of others including the Alameda Corridor management team and the Union Pacific HazMat team also participated.

7 Michigan TRANSCAER® had a very busy year in 2002, holding a total of 13 workshops throughout the state with a total of 717 Responders attending. The workshops were held from July through September. There were 34 speakers holding the workshops from different agencies, including Michigan State Police, Railroad, Chemical Industry, Trucking, the FBI, USCG, and MCC. The topics included TRANSCAER®, planning, and Security. These workshops are provided every three years with the support of the Dow Chemical Company.
