JOB DESCRIPTION

Job purpose To assist in the delivery of a range of periodical and acquisitions services to library users, offering help and advice as appropriate to the needs of each individual, to maximise their use of library services and facilities, and to ensure customer satisfaction.

Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities % Time  Make effective use of the Library Management System and related software applications to 30 deliver a range of library services to an agreed standard to maximise service quality and continuity. Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of periodical and acquisitions services in particular ensuring journal parts are delivered in a timely fashion, with specific responsibility for maintaining the arrangement and presentation of the newspaper collection and liaising with the external storage facility.

 Communicate as appropriate with subscription agents and other suppliers over delayed or 10 missing issues to ensure service quality and continuity.

 Receive and respond to a range of enquiries, communicating clearly to library users in a 20 variety of mediums, offering help, information and advice about services, stock and policy. Ability to judge when referral is necessary and who best to refer to, ensuring a satisfactory outcome to each enquiry.

 Contribute to the work involved in maintaining the electronic journal collections and to a range 15 of acquisitions services, responding to user requirements and applying procedures to ensure services are delivered effectively.

 Provide support and advice on the use of microform facilities. Assist with maintenance of the 5 equipment to ensure customer satisfaction and service continuity. 5  Participate in and contribute to the work of the service team via meetings and briefings to ensure policy is understood and applied consistently to ensure an effective service. Provide standard guidance and support to colleagues in day to day activities to maintain operational effectiveness. 5  Organise and prioritise own work load and activities within established guidelines subject to supervision to ensure operational effectiveness and the achievement of work objectives and outcomes. 5  Maintain links with a range of colleagues knowing who to liaise with on key issues. 5  Contribute to the development and improvement of services
