Planet Project Information

Planet Project Information

You will be completing planet projects to learn the unique qualities of the planets in our solar system. You will choose one inner planet and one outer planet to research. You will complete TWO projects over the next few weeks. Most research has been completed in class, but a library trip may be necessary to find all of the required information.

Each Project must include the following information:

 Planet size (diameter: in miles or kilometers)  Composition of atmosphere and planet  Orbiting naturally occurring objects (number and names)  Surface features (description of surface)  Distance in Astronomical Units from the Sun  One additional and interesting fact about the planet

A total of 50 points can be earned from the planet projects over the next few weeks, 25 points from each project. The projects must include the factual information from the planet fact sheet, but that information will be presented differently with each project. You may choose only one of each project type (i.e. Complete only one “fill-in the blank test”, or one Crossword puzzle, or one Multiple choice test. See the points available page that was given to students in class)

Extra Credit: Each student will be allowed to do one (1) project of their choice as extra credit. The extra credit will be graded using the same rubric and point values as the other 2 projects. All extra credit projects are due one week after the other projects.

Grading and Due Dates: I will accept early projects. Early projects must be submitted to me in the classroom. Projects brought in on the due date will be placed on a table in our classrooms. Late projects will lose 5 points per day and must be placed in the late-work basket in Mrs. Miller’s classroom in order to receive credit.

Due Date for Project #1: Monday, May 6, 2013 Due Date for Project #2: Tuesday, May 14, 2013

I will be available to discuss questions or problems with projects prior to the due date. Waiting until the due date to tell me you have a problem is not acceptable and will result in a lowered grade if it means your project is turned in late.

Each student will complete the Project Grading Sheet that they were given in class and place it in the folder that will be located on the project table on the due date.

Rubric/Grading:

To earn all points possible on each project you must include all 6 pieces of information mentioned above (size, composition, orbiting objects, surface features, Astronomical Units from Sun, plus 1 interesting fact) and the following:

 First and Last Name with homeroom teacher’s name SECURELY attached to each project  Turned in on due date: (final date) May14, 2013  COPS (Correct Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation, and Spelling)  Work must show personal best effort  Parent Signature on the following page  Follow the instructions for each individual project from the grid  Complete and return the Project Grading Sheet

Dear Parent/Guardian, By signing below, you indicate to Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Alvarado that you and I have discussed the importance of the science projects that I have been assigned.

This paper is due Friday, April 26, 2013. All students will earn points on each project for turning in this form on time.
