Study tips for Honors World History with Mr. Tricker.

Studying for a history test is a process. Do not wait till the last day to begin. Do not wait till two days prior to a test to begin. Spend time with history every night even if that means only fifteen to twenty minutes per night.

1. Pay attention in class a. Take extra notes to side of note sheets. Filling in the blanks should be the easy part. b. Listen to the teacher. You can benefit from this. c. Remain quiet and focused while in class. 2. Complete all homework assignments and individual projects. a. Turn in all assignments on time. b. Work in a relaxing environment where you are able to maintain focus. c. All homework unless otherwise noted must be the original work of each individual student. 3. Group projects a. Use the time provided in class appropriately. b. The teacher is aware of those groups and individuals who work diligently and those that do not. c. Students are accountable for the work that is turned into the teacher. 4. Study guide a. List the terms in a notebook and collate all relevant information from the book, notes, and handouts to each term. b. Students who study their notes and read their book throughout the week have an advantage because they are not reading terms or phrases that seem foreign to them. (See the first paragraph.) 5. Outline the chapter a. This can help to organize information particular to a manner which is more relatable to the individual student. b. Focus on the chapter terms, key events, and chapter assessments. 6. Note cards a. They can be effective if enough time is spent with them. 7. Read the chapter. a. Read according to the schedule dictated by the teacher. 8. Review notes and read chapter sections. a. Commit to this as a daily exercise. b. Spend at the minimum fifteen to twenty minutes per night. i. Some students may require more time per night to commit information to memory. 9. Study in groups or with one other student. a. Quiz each other on the material to aid in memorization. b. Stay focused and on task. c. It is not worthwhile to study with someone and not take the session seriously. 10. If you are still not satisfied after having tried the above, I am afraid I do not have any more advice except to turn to another source of help. a. Private tutoring can be effective. b. NHS tutoring can be a valuable resource to help improve your grade. c. Use your parents as a tool. They can quiz you too. 11. Seek providence.
