Pupil B - SENSORY PROGRAMME Choose activities from the suggested list on each day of the week. There are others on the enclosed list at the back of the file if you need more.

Use intensive interaction to engage Pupil and respond to little gestures, movement, eye contact etc. Use other areas to try activities so that positive experiences are paired with different environments.

Monday Oral – Motor Activities  Blowing activities – blow through a straw to make bubbles in water  Have dietary appropriate food – think crunchy or chewy - raisins, crackers, cereal, carrot sticks, celery, etc in pack. Show Pupil 2 things – try to help him make a choice. He can eat and chew each thing.  Try blowing party blowers.  Drink out of a water sports bottle.  Blowing bubbles and then popping them

Tuesday Tracking Activities Work in dark room  Use torch and shine in front  Move on object from one hand to the other  Use glow in the dark materials, gloves etc. track from left to right and up and down Initiation and Awareness  Foot/body massage using creams and massagers  Rocking games  Spinning on a swivel chair – say ‘stop’ then spin it and say ‘go’. Look for reaction for more.  Building blocks up and knocking down say “up up up” and down as fall  Gently shaking arms/legs  Requesting feather, roller etc heavy and light touch etc Reaction/Interactive Play  Music – singing songs and moving with Pupil  Sit opposite and engage in activity  Copy sounds/movements – drum, shaker etc  Using a ball, rolling, squashing, throwing, catching, feeling  Play with cause and effect toys

Wednesday Body Awareness / Heavy Work / Deep Pressure  Peek a boo games using blankets/duvets  Hide objects and retrieve  Rolling in a blanket  Blowing on face / arms / legs  Carry a weighted bag/dragging a heavy bag  Stack chairs  Squeeze different toys  Push against a wall or hands  Jump on mini tramp  Wrap up in a duvet and press body with pillows  Rub a ball along arms, legs  Using large exercise ball to bounce and balance on

Tactile Stimulation Activities  Brushes of different textures to brush skin on arms and legs  Draw with soap crayons and rub off with soft clothes  Create “tactile adventures” – pour different foods e.g. cornmeal, cornflour, oats, water, lentils, jelly either together or one at a time for Pupil to feel and play with – Dietary restrictions apply here!!  Hide objects in putty and get Pupil to pull out

Thursday Tactile & Oral Motor Activities  Feel different textures on hands and feet. Post them into box e.g. carpets, rubber mats, furry, silky etc.  Use shaving foam or foam soap to spread over a tray. Get Pupil to feel it, draw in it. Add grainy textures to it e.g. with sand, salt, rice, etc  Use paintbrushes and water and create big paintings on wall outside – use hand over hand to help him feel the movements of going up and down  Use bubbles – blow at Pupil and try and get him to react. If indicates more with a glance blow more  Use recorders, harmonica’s or other blowing instruments to blow  Blow bits of paper using a straw or just blow across area

Friday Vestibular / Destabilising Activities  Jump on mini tramp  Balance on cushions  Bouncing on the therapy ball  Take Pupil to the swing and let him feel the movement  Rocking movements, back and forwards behind him  Fidgeting with fidget toys like koosh balls, squeezy balls, silly putty, playdoh  Listening to very rhythmic music and moving with him  Walk along a mat or bench to help him gain sense of balance
