LOCATION and DESCRIPTION Radnor Township is located 13 miles west of Philadelphia and has a population of 30,000. Radnor Township School District covers nearly 14 sq. miles and serves a diverse, multicultural population. This public school system has been rated as one of the finest in the nation and won a silver rating by U.S. News & World Report.

RADNOR HIGH SCHOOL A Blue Ribbon School, Radnor High School offers a technologically up-to-date learning environment for approximately 1,300 students enrolled in grades 9 through 12, with an average class size of 25. Out of nearly 100 professionals, 95% hold advanced degrees.

Graduation Requirements A minimum of 22.5 credits is required for the class of 2011 in the following subject areas: English – 4 credits Social Studies – 3 credits (Western Civilization, World Studies, American Studies) Mathematics – 3 credits Science – 3 credits (Physical Science, Biology, Lab Science) Physical Education – 2 credits Health - .5 credit Computer Technology/Business - .5 credit Arts and Humanities – 2 credits Graduation Project

GRADE POINT AVERAGE and CLASS RANK A cumulative grade point average, both weighted and unweighted, is computed for every student at the end of the school year. Weighted scale is worth 10% more value than the unweighted scale. A weighted A = 4.4 and an unweighted A = 4.0.

CURRICULUM Radnor uses a modified block scheduling approach encompassing eight 40-minute classes three times a week and four 80 minute classes two times a week. All students are required to take 6.5 credits a year.

Integrated Courses These Honors courses meet for two periods each day, and are worth one English plus one Social Studies credit for their students. The courses are:

9th grade Integrated Western Civilization H 10th grade Global Issues H (non-Western World) 11th grade Viewpoints H (American Studies) 12th grade Senior Seminar H (Intellectual History/History of Science and Philosophy)

All four Integrated courses are designated as Honors. They expect the same level of critical thinking and complexity of work as Advanced Placement courses do, and thus are considered to be among RHS's most rigorous humanities offerings. All four demand intense work on writing (made possible by the low student- teacher ratio), high expectations for synthesizing across traditional disciplinary boundaries, emphasis on high-level discussion, frequent research projects, and continual expectation of creativity and analysis. Honors-Level Course Offerings Indication of an Honors course is the letter “H” after the course name on the transcript. Honors-level courses are weighted.

The Mathematics Department has revised their program and has instituted new names for the levels of instruction beginning in the 2010-2011 school year. The following changes have been made and will appear on student transcripts for the 2010-2011 school year and beyond: a.) “Honors” will be designated “Seminar Honors” and will receive weighted grades. b.) “Advanced” will be designated “Honors” and will receive weighted grades. c.) “College Preparatory” will be designated “Advanced” and grades will remain un-weighted. d.) “Topics” designation will be removed from the “Academic” level and grades will remain unweighted. Since the 2007-2008 school year, gradual changes in curriculum and expectations have been effected to prepare for these name changes.
