The Summer Term is here! This term we are continuing with story telling which will give our learning a context to link different subjects together under one theme. Our story to start the Summer Term is ‘The Twelve Dancing Princesses, this will link to a project that we are undertaking as a class with a local media company (ERM CIC). The children will continue to receive weekly spellings. Please continue to hear your child read at home and sign the reading record when you do; it is really important that children have this regular opportunity to read aloud to an adult every day. If you have any concerns or wish to discuss anything with us, please contact the school to make an appointment or pop in at the end of the day. Many thanks, Miss Sivananthan and Miss Vincent

Literacy At the start of this term we will be looking at the features of play scripts and writing our own for ‘The Twelve Dancing Princesses.’ After half term we will look at the story ‘The Boy and The Apple Tree’. During our study of these texts, we will be giving the children lots of opportunities for drama and role play. They will also have opportunities to work in groups and develop their speaking and listening skills.

Numeracy In numeracy we will continue to follow the new Year 4 curriculum. All the objectives have been covered in the Autumn Term and Spring Term and we will now be going over them again while increasing the difficultly of the problems that children will be required to solve. We will begin by looking closely at number. We will then move on to calculations where the children will be revising and extending their knowledge of methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Children will extend their knowledge of fractions, also spend time looking at the properties of shape, thinking about measurements and completing investigations involving data handling.

Science Our science topic for this half term is Electricity . The children will identify common appliances that use electricity They will construct simple circuits that use light bulbs and buzzers; look at conductors and insulators of electricity and investigate alternative sources of power.

ICT Our ICT will be linked to the project undertaken with ERM CIC as the children will be making films and editing them.
