White Shepherd Genetics Project (Wsgp)

WHITE SHEPHERD GENETICS PROJECT (WSGP) www.wsgenetics.com

Funding History The starting point for generating funds to learn more about the health issues of the White Shepherd evolved as a result of the Health and Genetics Survey conducted in 2000 after a meeting organized by Judy Huston, and conducted by Dr. George Padgett . It was held at the 1999 AWSA National Specialty show in Midland, Michigan.

White Shepherd enthusiasts and White Shepherd and white GSD breeders participated in the survey. Now we are a nonprofit organization with a mission statement and a dream to use the information we have gathered over the years via database submissions, necropsy procedures for over 40 dogs, and more and more research opportunities to make a difference for these dogs and for their owners.

The WSGP project has grown over time and so has the support of the White Shepherd enthusiasts demonstrated by all the ways people continue to do their part to help our dogs.

Funds have been donated by White Shepherd clubs, in memory of Dr. George Padgett, in memory of special people in our lives or special dogs in our lives, and in gratitude for support from the WSGP. Funds have been received from special fundraiser shows, raffles, and auctions, and just because someone wanted to contribute to this beautiful breed.

Additional details about those who donated time, money, research, etc.

 American White Shepherd Association contributed at one time through designated raffles and auctions at their national events and specialty shows and overpayment of membership dues designated for the WSGP. Since 2006, most of their support is through sanctioning AWSA shows for the WSGP fundraiser.

 Cardeccia, Mary, DVM, Advisory Board, Consultant for necropsy reports and willingly gives assistance when we ask for clarification of issues affecting our breed. Interacts with pathologists and other diagnosticians when required. We pay her a consulting fee but her contributions are above and beyond what we pay her.

 Currey Family PetCare has donated the site for fundraisers from 2008 to the present.

 Cesar Milan, The Dog Whisperer, donated proceeds from two Michigan seminars conducted in 2005 and 2006.

 Padgett, George, DVM donated hours and hours of his time to our breed from 1999-2004.

 Fundraising: Cesar Millan training DVDs donated to the WSGP have been sold on eBay by Scarlett Sanders who then sends these funds to the WSGP.

 Fundraising: The United White Shepherd Club members donated to provide BOLT stuffed animals for our 2005 fundraiser and they were a huge success in our auction and raffle table.  Fundraising: Paw print charms were created by Scarlett Sanders and offered at vet’s offices in her areas. The charms were also used while they lasted, as “Thank you” gifts to private donors.

 Fundraising: VG’s (a grocery chain in Michigan) donates a per cent of each purchase to nonprofit organizations—we applied and receipts are being collected. They can be submitted once $50 or more is earned and a check is sent to the WSGP.

 Fundraising: Lynda Proulx, donates hand-made beds as Best of Breed prizes for each fundraiser show. She organized and coordinated the first-ever Annual Fundraiser for WSGP.

 Fundraising: Robin Davey from Stamford, CT has such a passion for the breed that she is on her second WSGP fundraising project. Earlier, she coordinated a calendar with pictures of White Shepherds and recipes submitted by their owners. In 2010-11 she is offering beautiful shirts with a White Shepherd (or other breed or even species) that can include their name, a kennel name, etc. Now she is offering stickes and is talking about quilts and more. See link below.

 Fundraising: Missy Lee pointed us in the direction of an organization that does fundraising using wine as the product and your breed as the label. No one jumped at the opportunity to take on the project, so Missy Lee did it herself—from Japan. See link below.

 Schultz, William, DVM, Advisory Board, donated a PennHIP/OFA seminar and assists us whenever we ask for help.

 Wawrowski, Eva, Graphics Designer—designed and donated tickets for the Cesar events. Designed our “Thank you cards” and prepared return address labels for us.

 “White Shepherd” co-authored by Updike, Diana, donates 35% of purchase price for the book.

 White Shepherd Club of Canada and the American White Shepherd Association have donated 100% of the profits of annual fundraiser shows beginning in 2006. 2011 will be the 6th WSGP Annual Fundraiser

 White Shepherd Club of Canada has requested that hosting clubs donated half of the profit from all WSCC pointed shows held in the United States beginning in 2011.

 White Shepherd enthusiasts have auctioned their artwork to support the breed.

 White Shepherd enthusiasts have included the WSGP in their estate planning.

 White Shepherd enthusiasts have set up automatic monthly donations to the WSGP.

 The White Shepherd enthusiasts attending the WSGP Fundraiser who have supported the WSGP by exhibiting their dogs, donating items for the raffles and auctions and purchasing raffle tickets and bidding from their hearts for auction items. As well as those who could not attend the fundraisers who have donated items for the raffles and auctions.  WSGP funds come from breeders, owners, exhibitors, and people who just love the breed. These are made at shows, at fundraisers, by mail to P.O. Box 404, Howell, MI. 48844, and by PayPal donations—see link below. We obviously could not have anything to raffle or auction if other owners, breeders, and friends of the breed didn’t donate items for us to showcase and raffle or auction off.

I’m sure that I missed some important contributors (all of you are important) or special comments or special contributions to honor a special dog or person—so please, if your name, organization, special contribution was missed, e-mail Judy so this list can be updated. You are all so appreciated and our beautiful white dogs are the beneficiaries of this generosity.
