How Do I Request a Writer Send My Letter of Recommendation to Interfolio?*

How Do I Request A Writer Send My Letter of Recommendation to Interfolio?*

1. Log into your account. 2. Click “Request a Letter.” 3. Select the Document Type. [Most programs prefer you select “Confidential Letter of Recommendation.”] 4. Check the box indicating the letter must be signed. 5. Enter your writer’s contact information, including email address. 6. Create a title for your letter. Consider using the name of the writer in the title. Example: “Prof. John Smith - Confidential Letter of Recommendation”. Note: your writer will see this. 7. Choose whether to send the request via email, or if you’d rather print a hard copy of Interfolio’s Letter Request Form to hand deliver it. This Letter Request Form is very important, as the letter cannot be processed without it!

[NOTE: if you are applying to Medical or Dental School , you may wish to provide your writers with a “HPPLC Evaluation Form” so that you do not have to wait for the school-specific forms that come with the secondaries. If so, this form should be hand-delivered and the writer should transmit this form to Interfolio along with their letter and Interfolio’s Letter Request Form. This form is available here: http://hpplc.indiana.edu/documents/EvaluationForm_002.pdf].

8. Click “Send Request”. That’s it! Your request will either be emailed, or the form will be available to print.

9. You should see a confirmation message either showing that your email was sent, or giving you the option to print the form as a hard copy.

10. Your “Documents” page should now display your new request as a “pending document”, with the status “Not Received”. [Interfolio will send you an email when the letter arrives in your account.]

*For detailed step-by-step instructions of the above with screen-shots, see: http://help.interfolio.com/entries/24062192-Requesting-Letters-of-Recommendation-Through-Interfolio-.

Note: if your recommendation writer prefers to send their letter by postal mail, consider providing a stamped, addressed envelope: Interfolio, Inc.; 1025 Connecticut Ave NW, Suite 1103; Washington DC 20036.

HPPLC has a document entitled “Instructions to Writers for Submitting Letters to Interfolio,” available here: http://hpplc.indiana.edu/documents/WriterInstructions.docx.
