Profile of members of the PPG

The PPG includes both virtual and attending members. Members range in age from 31years old to 75 years. Our membership includes Asian /British, White British, Black British, Black Caribbean and White Irish. At our last meeting 4 of those attending were from our Garland Road Branch Surgery and 4 from Plumstead Health Centre.

Ensuring Representation of PPG

Steps were taken to attract patients from the demographic of our patient list. Information was put on our Jayex board, on the practice website, at the reception desks and on our notice boards in the waiting areas. GPs mentioned the initiative to patients at the end of consultations – in this way two patients were co-opted to the group. The Practice Manager contacted warden controlled accommodation to engage the harder to reach patients – however patients did not want to commit. A member of the PPG attended Garland Road on two separate occasions and sought to encourage new membership, particularly in the 16 to 30 age bracket and/or from the EEC ethnic group.

Determining priorities for the survey

The draft survey was informed by comments made to the reception staff. This draft survey was e-mailed/ posted to the PPG for amendment and comments. Members were requested to return their forms as soon as possible in order that the practice could commence the survey in a timely manner.

How we conducted the patient survey

Patients were asked to complete forms whilst awaiting their appointment. PPG members were asked to volunteer to attend either surgery to assist with the completion of surveys. One volunteer attended the Garland Road surgery on two separate occasions.

Organising a meeting for the PPG

A meeting was arranged in agreement with the PPG for members to meet on 31 May 2012. Survey forms had been collated and comments recorded under priority headings. Individual comment forms were numbered for both Garland Road and Plumstead Health Centre, in order that members could distinguish between each practice if required. However, the survey figures were collated as a whole.

Developing an action plan

Action plan developed during the PPG meeting on 31 May 2012.
