Online Programme Leader Role

Based in Dublin Law Faculty of Griffith College

(full-time – 20 hours a week + 6 hours lecturing (4 live and 2 on-line)

Pastoral care

1. Keep all on-line students motivated and engaged over the academic year; 2. Ensure that the weekly activities are appropriate for the content; 3. Organise and maintain a pastoral care system (phone call to each learner every 3 weeks); 4. Ensure that those who are repeating or who have deferred from last year re-engage.

Quality Management

1. Manage and oversee the quality assurance mechanisms required for running LLB Online and work with the Programme Director for undergraduate (UG) degree programmes in this regard; 2. Ensure communication of correct module descriptors and assessment to all online lecturing staff and admissions; 3. Ensure active liaison between lecturing staff on all online modules and lecturers on equivalent modules across campuses and different modes of delivery; 4. Ensure exam submission, assessment and other faculty deadlines are adhered to; 5. Work with the UG Programme Director to organise and structure the online programme delivery in line with QQI standards, programme learning outcomes etc; 6. Liaise with learning technologists to ensure smooth delivery of online programmes ensuring that online content is of a high standard, engaging, up to date and managed in a structured way; 7. Liaise on an ongoing basis with learning technologists and the Programme Director for undergraduate degree programmes in organising relevant training to support lecturing staff in teaching online; 8. Develop a structure to support the academic requirements of delivering a law degree online. Access, transparency and consistency are key to this; 9. Take responsibility for all faculty QA processes connected to the running of the exam board for the online students; 10. Work as part of the whole Law faculty team and undertake any tasks / duties as assigned to you by the Programme Director or Head of Faculty.

Validation/Programmatic Review

11. Prepare and execute implementation plan for LLB stages 1 and 2 (from September 2015) with Law faculty team; 12. Contribute to the drafting of the Annual Course Reports by drafting the contributions as regards the online cohorts of learners. Staffing / Timetabling

13. Work with the faculty as regards identifying and hiring suitable lecturing staff for development and delivery of stage 1 and 2 (September 2015) LLB, and stage 3 in September 2016; 14. Organise contracts and payment schedules; 15. Organise relevant staff induction and training; 16. Prepare timetables for LLB Online; 17. Prepare study schedule for LLB online students; 18. Prepare revision schedule for LLB online students.

Marketing /Admissions

19. Website up to date with the best possible video material and testimonials; 20. Work closely with Admissions with regard to the marketing of online LLB programme – eg promotional video, press releases, blogs, articles, open evening videos etc; 21. Attend open evenings /days / events as required; 22. Make admissions-related phone calls to applicants; 23. Be available to meet with prospective students – one to one meetings; 24. Process applications for LLB Online.

Contribution to the Faculty 25. The online Programme Leader must actively participate in the general work of the Faculty as reasonably directed by the Head of Faculty. Other specific tasks and duties:  Co-ordinating Moodle and on-line recorded training for all authors / tutors;  Designing the module learning plans over a 12 session basis in line with the defined learning outcomes, syllabus and reading listing;  Manage the deployment of pedagogically robust learning environment to underpin achievement of the module learning outcomes. This will involve responsibility for creating the upfront learning resources and material with the support of the learning technologist and pedagogical expert;  Co-ordinate the design of quality eLearning assessment strategy that is aligned with the module learning outcomes. This will be designed with the support of the Programme Director, Learning Technologist, and Pedagogical expert;  Manage, co-ordinate and present at regular induction sessions with students, monthly meetings with the students, workshops and team meetings;  Engaging with marketing to promote your profile and that of Griffith College;  Co-ordinate the design of questions and activities to stimulate remote learner engagement;  Moderate and monitor remote learner engagement;  Answer learner questions related to the module and on-line learning environment;  Resolve technical or connectivity issues or pass to IT Services for specific issues;  Engage with our online learners and manage the eLearning module assessment strategy which will include both formative and summative assessment elements;  Suggest improvements to the Programme Director;  Encourage, motivate learners and maintain required records;  Attend faculty meetings and on-line delivery meetings as appropriate;  Attending to other tasks like exam writing, exam correction, attending the live exams and exam boards in January, June and August.

Essential Requirements

 Honours law degree and postgraduate law qualification;  Experience of a Virtual Learning Environment;  Experience of communicating via online software;  IT literate and confident with embracing new technologies.

Desirable Requirements

 Experience of teaching law at third level;  Experience with Camtasia (or other video capturing programme), Adobe Connect (or other similar programme);  Project management experience;  Experience managing staff.
