India is a home to variety of horticultural crops which covers a wide range of fruits, vegetables, tuber crops, flowers, mushrooms, spices, medicinal and aromatic plants. India produces about 70 varieties of vegetables and equally diverse variety of fruits, consisting 70% of tropical and sub-tropical type and 30% of temperate type. The importance of horticultural sector in Indian economy can be visualized from the fact that it accounts for 30% of India’s agricultural GDP from only 8.5% of the cropped area. Tamil Nadu, one of the Southern States of India has seven agro-climatic zones viz., North Eastern Zone, Cauvery Delta Zone, Southern Zone, Western Zone, North Western Zone, High Altitude Zone and High Rainfall Zone spread over in 29 districts. The state is the largest producer of bananas (56.50 lakh MT), flowers, tapioca (49.76 lakh MT), the second largest producer of mangoes, natural rubber, coconut, groundnut and the third largest producer of coffee, sapota, tea and sugarcane. The total area covered under horticulture crops in the State moved up from 10.01 lakh hectares in 2011-12 to 10.81 lakh hectares in 2012-13 (8.0%) and further raised to 11.46 lakh hectares in 2013-14 (6.0%). The increase in area and yield rate helped to augment the total production of horticultural crops from 152.62 lakh tonnes in 2011-12 to 173.99 lakh tonnes in 2012-13 (14.0%) and further to 191.31 lakh tonnes in 2013-14 (10.0%). Fruits, vegetables, spices and condiments and plantation crops together claimed a share of 96.0 percent of the total area covered under horticultural crops. Entrepreneurship development is an important way of achieving the integration for bringing net gain to farmers, producers, consumers and nation. Large number of crops has been brought under improved cultivars as a result of considerable increase in production of quality planting material and seeds through research. A large number innovative technologies like drip irrigation, green house cultivation, micro grafting etc have been invented for the welfare of the farmers. Conference seeks  To promote innovative technologies in horticulture for bioentrepreneurship opportunity.  Challenges and market potential of horticulture industry.  Enhancing rural livelihood through sustainable utilization of the vast bioresource for economic development.  To provide interactive platform for students/scientist/entrepreneurs working in horticulture crops for sustainable production and marketability
