Required selections are in brackets and in [BOLD]. Notes and comments are in grey text boxes such as this one. This section incorporates wording for AWMAC's Guarantee and Inspection Service (GIS). In order to ensure that the quality of materials and workmanship of the architectural woodwork specified are in compliance with AWMAC's STANDARDS the AWMAC Guarantee and Inspection Service program (GIS) must be specified and be considered an integral component of the scope of work. Costs for this program are to be borne by the millwork sub-contractor. Go to http://awmac.com/gis for details. This guide specification covers the materials and methods you would want to specify for Millwork. It is strongly recommended that you read Section 6 of AWMAC's STANDARDS before using this guide spec. Many of the items you would ordinarily specify are governed by your choice of Grade.

Part 1 GENERAL

Factory finishing is strongly recommended. All of the other standards you would reference are within AWMAC's STANDARDS.

.1.1.1 If there is conflict between plans and/or specifications and AWMAC's STANDARDS, plans and specifications shall govern.

1.3 SUBMITTALS .3.1 Shop Drawings: .1.1.2 Submit shop drawings conforming to AWMAC's STANDARDS requirements .3.1.1 Submit two copies, one of which will be returned with reviewed notations. Make corrections noted (if any), and distribute required copies prior to start of work. .3.2 Samples: .1.1.3 Submit three sets of [finished] samples of each species and cut of wood to be used. Veneer samples minimum 304 mm x 304 mm. Each sample set of three to represent range of color and grain expected. .1.1.4 [Submit three additional samples of each material for use of paint trade.] Include this Item if materials are to be finished at the job site.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE .1.2 Work in conformance with Grade or Grades specified in AWMAC's STANDARDS. .1.3 [Guarantee and Inspection Service:] .1.3.1 Architectural woodwork shall be manufactured [and/or] installed to AWMAC's STANDARDS and shall be subject to an inspection at the factory and/or site by an appointed AWMAC Certified Inspector. Inspection costs shall be included in the tender price for this project. (Contact your local AWMAC Chapter for details of inspection costs). Shop drawings submitted to the AWMAC Chapter office for review before work commences. Work that does not meet AWMAC's STANDARDS, as specified, shall be replaced, reworked and/or refinished by the architectural woodwork contractor, to the approval of AWMAC, at no additional cost to the Owner. .1.3.2 If the woodwork contractor is an AWMAC manufacturer member in good standing, a two (2) year AWMAC Guarantee Certificate will be issued. The AWMAC Guarantee shall cover replacing, reworking and/or refinishing deficient architectural woodwork due to faulty workmanship or defective materials supplied [and/or] installed by the woodwork contractor, which may appear during two (2) year period following the date of issuance. .1.3.3 If the woodwork contractor is not an AWMAC Manufacturer member they shall provide the owner with a two (2) year maintenance bond, in lieu of the AWMAC Guarantee Certificate, to the full value of architectural woodwork contract. 1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING .5.1 Deliver materials only when project ready for installation and clean storage area provided. .5.1.1 Deliver of architectural millwork made only when area of operation enclosed, plaster and concrete work dry and area broom clean. .5.1.2 Maintain indoor temperature and humidity within range recommended by AWMAC's STANDARDS for location of the project.

1.6 SCHEDULING .6.1 Coordinate fabrication, delivery, and installation with contractor and other applicable trades.

Part 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 COMPONENTS .1.1 Lumber sound, kiln dried, and in accordance with AWMAC's STANDARDS requirements for its use and Grade specified. .1.2 Particleboard, MDF, and Plywood to meet requirements of AWMAC's STANDARDS Grade specified and their intended use. .1.3 Veneered components in accordance with AWMAC's STANDARDS requirements for Grade specified. .1.3.1 [Core [particleboard] [MDF].] If this item is not included, core is at the manufacturer’s option, subject to requirements of AWMAC's STANDARDS. Particleboard or MDF are recommended as core materials.

.1.3.2 Adhesives [Type I] [Type II]. Type I glue is waterproof; Type II is water resistant. Type II is satisfactory except in a wet environment.

2.2 FABRICATION .2.1 Interior Millwork AWMAC's STANDARDS [Economy] [Custom] [Premium] Grade. Specify grade. Custom grade is typically specified and adequate for most high quality architectural woodwork.

Part 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION .1.1 Verify mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other building components, affecting work in this Section are in place and ready.

3.2 INSTALLATION .2.1 Install work in conformance with AWMAC's STANDARDS. .2.2 Conform to AWMAC's STANDARDS Grade(s). .2.3 Secure all work in place, square, plumb, and level. .2.4 Fit and scribe work abutting other building components. .2.5 Countersink mechanical fasteners used at exposed and semi-exposed surfaces, excluding installation attachment screws and those securing cabinets end to end. .2.6 Cut equipment cutouts shown on plans using templates provided.

3.3 ADJUSTING & TOUCH UP .3.1 Adjust all moving and operating parts to function smoothly and correctly. .3.2 Fill and retouch all nicks, chips and scratches. Replace all un-repairable damaged items.

3.4 CLEANUP .4.1 Upon completion of installation, clean installed items of pencil and ink marks, and broom clean area of operation.
