New York State Association of County Coroners and Medical Examiners presents CORONER 101 “ Investigation of Death” Saturday, December 8, 2007 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Lourdes Hospital - Lecture Hall - Binghamton, New York

REGISTRATION: 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. COST: $101 (includes lunch and coffee breaks) COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course, primarily designed for newly elected Coroners, will provide basic knowledge in several areas of Medico-Legal Death Investigation, i.e. Scene Investigation, Determining Cause of Death, Criteria for Ordering an Autopsy, Legal Duties and Issues, and Proper Documentation. This course is based on New York State statues particularly County Law 17A. Coroner 101 may also be used as a refresher course for sitting Coroners/ME’s, and source of information for Public Health Officials, Law Enforcement Officers, Funeral Directors or anyone who deals with Coroners and Medical Examiners. The NYSACCME Coroner 101 course is designed to give the newly elected Coroner the basic information needed to take his/her office following their election. Presently, there is no requirement for such a course, but NYSACCME believes and encourages proper education in all areas of Medico-Legal Death Investigation and will strive to bring this course to all newly elected Coroners.
