PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Columbia Law School has been invited by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague to nominate candidates for a 9-month traineeship to begin in September 2, 2013 and end in May 30, 2014. (The traineeship is analogous to what we would call a clerkship; another comparison would be to stagiaires at the European Court of Justice.)
QUALIFICATIONS
The ICJ's letter to the Dean inviting our nominations contains the following summary of required qualifications:
[A]ny candidates for traineeships at the Court should have excellent skills in one of the Court's official languages (French or English) and have a very good knowledge of the other. They should also have an excellent academic record in public international law with proven research and writing skills. With regard to the main duties of the trainees, they will be expected to assist Members of the Court in their tasks, including, inter alia, carrying out research, preparing case files and drafting various types of documents.
HOW TO APPLY
Interested individuals should submit the following materials by Thursday, January 31, 2013 to Jason Nasrallah (see contact info below):
Letter of application addressed to Dean Schizer explaining your interest in the position and qualifications for it; Completed Application Form Complete curriculum vitae; Official Transcript(s); Reference letters (Include at least 2 formal letters of recommendation) Writing sample (which could be a publication or a paper)
A committee headed by Professor Lori Damrosch will review the applications and forward 2-3 nominees to the Court for final selection.
