Algebra 2 – Course Syllabus Fall Semester 2011 Mrs. T. Young

Welcome to Algebra 2! Algebra 2A/B is a course designed for students who plan on attending college. It expands on the content of Algebra 1 and Geometry and is a formal development of the skills and concepts necessary for Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus.

 Supplies needed to be brought to each class meeting:  TEXTBOOK – Algebra 2 (Prentice Hall) Website: www.phschool.com  Notebook, paper, graph paper Access code: PHMASE09CAENA2T  Pencils – bring at least 2 sharpened  A scientific calculator is recommended, mostly for second semester

Homework/Classwork:  Mathematics requires much practice and repetition to be fully understood.  Completion of homework/classwork assignments is vital to your success.  Assignments will be given each day and will be turned in the next class meeting for credit.  10 points -- turned in on time, complete, all work shown neatly  5-7 points -- late or incomplete  All homework must include your name, date, period, and page # with problems assigned.  If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain the missing assignments and make sure they are completed and turned in for credit. Any work due the day you were absent, is due the day you return. Make-up work must be turned in no later than one class meeting after the day you return. Test Make-up:  If you are absent on a test date, a make-up test should be given on the day you return.  If the absence is an extended one, it is your responsibility to make arrangements with me to set a test make-up date and schedule for missed assignments. Tests must be made up within one week.

See other side Re-tests: If you "fail" a chapter test, you have the opportunity to be re-tested on the chapter material if you have at least 80% of your homework turned in for the current chapter. The maximum score on a re-test is 90%. You are allowed 2 re-tests for the semester. *If you keep up with your homework and study your notes, re-tests should not be necessary. Extra Assistance: A limited amount of time will be given in class to work on the assigned problems. During this time you are expected to begin work on the assignment and seek individual help. Additional tutoring sessions will be announced. Grading Policy: The following types of assessment will be utilized and weighted in the following manner.  Tests, Quizzes 75%  Daily Assignments 15%  Notes & Stamp Sheets (collected at end of each chapter) 10%  Extra Credit – don’t count on it. Grading Scale: Grades will be assigned based on the following scale: A 90-100% D 65-69% B 80-89% F less than 65% C 70-79% Classroom Behavior Guidelines:  Be in assigned seat READY to work when tardy bell rings.  Be RESPECTFUL to teacher, classmates, and all school property.  Be RESPONSIBLE…bring required materials to class every day.  No eating, drinking (water only) or chewing gum in class.  No electronics: cellphones, ipods, video games etc. Note to Parents/Guardians: If you have any questions, you may reach me by e-mail: [email protected] or at (951) 738-2100 Ext. 1350.
