Museum Project (A Day at the Museum)

Description/Purpose

The purpose of this project is for U.S. History students to create a museum display illustrating the important events of each year/decade from the ______to the ______.

The class is divided into Year/Decade groups. Each Year/Decade group creates a museum display that illustrates the most important events/activities of that year/decade. The Museum Project will be displayed during the day in the ______. Visiting students from other classes (researchers) will be invited to visit the displays on ______. All students will serve as museum docents (experts about their time period and about the museum displays). Students will be asked to serve as docents for multiple school periods during the day.

The museum displays should include the following artifacts or documents that help the visiting researcher learn about each decade. Students will be available to answer questions or explain artifacts and documents. The Museum displays should include a multimedia component, display board and artifacts (real or created). It should be highly visible, interesting, and engaging. The students will also be a part of the museum becoming a character from that time period dressed for the part and using their knowledge of the time period and of the individual to answer the questions.

1. Timeline of Top Ten Events of the Year/Decade (listed in time order with a drawing, picture, or illustration for each event).

2. Poster/Collage of the Top Ten People in the Year/Decade and brief explanation of their significance.

3. Poster/Collage of the Top Ten Sport Stories in the Year/Decade.

4. Poster/Collage of the Top Ten Books in the Year/Decade with a brief explanation of each book

5. Poster/Collage of the Top Ten Television/Radio shows in the Year/Decade.

6. Poster/Collage of the Top Ten Movies/Plays in the Year/Decade.

7. Poster/Collage of the Top Ten Songs in the Year/Decade.

8. Poster/Collage of the Top Ten Fashions in the Year/Decade.

9. Poster/Collage of the Top Ten Inventions of the Year/Decade.

9. Top Ten Headlines in the Year/Decade (real or created).

10. Table display of Ten artifacts from the Year/Decade (real or created).

11. Create a PowerPoint/ Movie presenting images, music, information etc…(Be creative0

12. Each docent will become a person of that year/decade and will create and write a Document Based Question (DBQ) from the viewpoint of the character.
