About the NRDC

National Rural Development Centre (NRDC) is a non-governmental and non-profitable social development organization established in the year 2011 (2067 BS) in Sarlahi district through the combined effort of some energetic youths that were actively involved in the field of social and community services in rural area. The NRDC works to empower and uplift the standard of living of Marginalized Community, Women, Dalits, Youths, Indigenous Groups, Disaster Stricken and Conflict affected, and poor people. It emphasizes on information and technology, rights based issues, and other socio-economic and environmental and climate change issues of rural Nepal. It was registered in the District Administration Office, Sarlahi in March 2011 and at Internal Revenue Department of Tax office Janakpur, Dhanusha. It has been affiliated with the Social Welfare Council, Kathmandu since July 2011. The NRDC has been working in rural areas involving Dalit group, marginalized and deprived families, ethnic and indigenous community, women, and youths and children on sanitation and basic health, education, agriculture, and other socio-economic sectors.

Mission Empowerment and sustainable livelihood options for women, Dalits, indigenous community, marginalized, poor, and underprivileged communities in a environment friendly manner adopting participatory and social mobilization approach. Goal  To improve education, health, and socio-economic status of children, youths, women, Dalits, indigenous and disadvantaged people in rural areas through various sustainable development initiatives.  To build up capacity of community-based organizations and grassroots people including rural women in decision making process and implementing sustainable development programmes.

2. Objectives of this organization are as follows:  To plan, implement, monitor and evaluate programmes related to social mobilization, livelihood, income generation and micro enterprise development  To improve health and sanitation condition of Dalits, Indigenous people, children, youth and women, and raising awareness towards malnutrition and its effects, and preventing communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS.  To improve livelihoods of women, Dalits, indigenous community, marginalized, poor, and underprivileged people through various social, educational, drinking water, income generating activities, commercial and environment friendly agriculture, resource conservation, and other socio-economic development initiatives.  To promote learning environment for children and youths at the community level through formal and non-formal education.  To raise public awareness levels and implement programs concerning right based issues, human rights, good governance, and other related issues.  To raise awareness on climate change and degrading environment and to implement programs mitigating climate change effects, improving environmental conditions, and promoting renewable energy use and management in rural areas.  To carry out training and implement programs on the rights of children, youths, women, and disadvantaged communities; implement program on conflict management, and leadership and capacity building of community organizations.  To capacitate, coordinate and network with local, national and International organizations for developmental programs.  To carry out relationship building activities for linking and exchanging cultural attributes, and to develop the creativity of the children and youths/adults. 3. Strategic Objective:  Social Mobilization: Social mobilization is a crucial part to change the community in the realistic approaches. Development programs need social mobilization approach which captures the goal of the targeted initiatives.  Livelihood Promotion: We will strive to increase the livelihood opportunities for the women, youths and marginalized communities through income generation and livelihood skills training. This will not only increase their capacity but also lead to reduction of poverty.  Capacity Building: working as a capacity building organization for local NGOS/CBOs, civil societies and local government bodies.  Project Management and Development: NRDC has managed some projects in collaboration with different partners using participatory methodology.  Awareness and Rights based Advocacy: Increasing awareness and advocacy for the rights of women, youths and marginalized communities are the major area of emphasis, which will lead to reduction of ethnic, regional and gender discrimination and exclusions.  Health & Sanitation: increasing the access to safe drinking water, sanitation and general health of women, youths and marginalized communities; increasing awareness and providing services related to reproductive health, safe abortion and HIV/AIDS.  Institutional capacity Development: building-up capacity of community and CBOs for effectively implementing development activities at the community level.

4. Approaches of NRDC:

a) Participation: full participation of Dalit, women, youths and other marginalized community b) Networks/ Coordination and Linkages: networking with District Administration, DDC, VDCs, other government agencies, academics, lawyers, social activists, NGOs, stakeholders, and development partners involved in rural development c) Rights and Advocacy: bring about positive changes in attitudes and policies concerning marginalized community, women and youths though their organization d) Non-Discriminatory: build respect for individual/human rights e) Gender sensitiveness: equal opportunity for men and women at work place and community work f) Empowerment and conflict reconciliation: empower the targeted communities and build peace through reconciliation of interests. g) Non-political: The activities and program of the organization will not favor any political party and will be non-party in nature. h) Accountability and Transparency: NRDC will be accountable to the targeted community and eager to share all information with all concerned. i) Inclusion: Inclusiveness of target community and disadvantaged groups in decision making and implementing their programs.
