Second Annual Continuing Educational Programme Raising Standards in Ophthalmic Practice
Introducing the National Occupational Standards for Ophthalmic and Vision Science Tuesday 23rd May 2006 Manchester Conference Centre Weston Building, Sackville Street, Manchester, M1 3BB
Lectures (basic and intermediate levels) (At the basic level, the attendee is expected to have little or no background in the subject area, and the intermediate level is for individuals who have had some experience in the subject area) Introducing the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Ophthalmic and Vision Science and how to assess them Taking an ophthalmic patient history Visual acuity assessment – Snellen, LogMAR including reduced contrast testing and glare assessment in cataract patients Intraocular pressure and tonometry – basic principles and methods, and introducing the new Pascal tonometer Ophthalmic pharmacology Biometry – basic and intermediate Imaging the fundus of the eye – fundus cameras and HRT II Visual Field assessment – basic and intermediate
Workshops throughout the day Visual acuity testing: Computerised systems for Snellen and LogMAR, low contrast visual acuity testing Tonometry: Hands-on with Goldmann tonometer and tonopen, and demonstration of the new Pascal tonometer A-scan biometry: Demonstrations of techniques for contact and immersion A-scan biometry Fundus imaging: Mydriatic and non-mydriatic fundus cameras
