Terms and Conditions: -
1. In order to nominate someone, you must be a UK resident (including Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) and must not be a BBC employee, employee of any of its affiliates, close relative of any such employees or connected to these Awards directly or through a close relative. If you are under 18 you will need the permission of a parent or guardian to nominate.
2. Any individual who has taught for more than one year is eligible to be nominated, except BBC employees, close relatives of any BBC employee or anyone connected to these Awards directly or through a close relative. The nominee must have consented to being nominated. Proof of age, identity and eligibility may be requested. The nomination cannot bring the BBC into disrepute – in the BBC’s sole discretion.
3. Nominations can be made from 0600 hours on 23 February 2015 by completing the nomination form online (www.bbc.co.uk/radioleeds) or from BBC Radio Leeds and emailed to [email protected] or posted to BBC Radio Leeds, 2 St Peters Square, Leeds LS9 8AH
4. Entries must be received by BBC Radio Leeds no later than 2359 on 10 April 2015 (extended from original date of 2359 on 31 March 2015). Any nominations received after this will not be accepted. Only one nomination will be accepted from each nominee.
5. You will be required to provide evidence of the nominee’s permission in case your nominee is shortlisted. You are required to provide contact details for your nominee(s), should he/she/they be shortlisted. The nominee(s) will be told that you were the person nominating him/her/them.
6. Nominations can be made in the following categories:
Most Inspirational Teacher – Pre-School For the most inspirational pre-school teacher in West Yorkshire
Most Inspirational Teacher – Primary For the most inspirational primary school teacher in West Yorkshire
Most Inspirational Teacher – Secondary For the most inspirational secondary teacher in West Yorkshire
Most inspirational Teacher – Extra Curricular Activities For the most inspirational teacher of clubs or activities outside of school in West Yorkshire
Most Inspirational Teacher – Adult Education For the most inspirational adult education teacher in West Yorkshire
Most Inspirational Teacher – Special Needs For the most inspirational SEN teacher in West Yorkshire
1 My Teacher Award Open to nominations for all teachers but nominees must be aged 16 or under as of the closing date (31 March 2015) and must submit a video of no more than 3 minutes in length). The film can be sent as a video data file (eg AVI, MOV) via a file sharing website (such as Dropbox or WeTransfer) to our awards email address or on a DVD or USB stick as a data file and posted to the awards address .
7. Some nominations may be read out on air, some videos may be posted on the BBC’s website or used in other online spaces. These uses of nominations will have no bearing on and be entirely separate from the judging process. By submitting your nomination you grant the BBC all the necessary rights to use the nomination (whether text or video) in any BBC output, whether broadcast or published online. Further, you grant to the BBC the right to adapt, edit or change the nomination in order to broadcast or publish.
8. The BBC Radio Leeds team may contact both the nominator and nominee to verify facts and/or events and whether the relevant consents have been obtained. This should not be interpreted as anything other than an information gathering exercise.
9. Further on-going research may be undertaken by the BBC Radio Leeds team. The nominee (or parent / guardian of the nominee, as appropriate) may be contacted and asked for relevant contacts to assist this research. The BBC reserves the right to disqualify a nominee if such contacts are not provided.
10. All entries (nominations in writing or by video) must not contain illegal, unlawful, defamatory, obscene, offensive or any other unsuitable material. All entries (whether text or videos) must be suitable to be broadcast by the BBC.
11. BBC Radio Leeds staff will judge the nominations using the following criteria and provide a shortlist of up to 10 entries per category listed below for the judging panel. The criteria for judging is: How they inspire the nominator and others,, The qualities and character of the nominee, and How the nominee went the extra mile.
12. The judging panel will consist of BBC and non-BBC personnel to consider the shortlisted nominations using the criteria above. The panel will agree on a winner for each category and an overall winner. Judging will take place in April.
13. The winners will be publicly announced on BBC Radio Leeds, online and at the Awards Event. Winners will be expected to accept the award in person on the day. The person who nominated the winner is also expected to be present during the announcement. The BBC will not be liable for any accommodation and/or travelling expenses occurred.
14. The BBC’s decision as to the shortlist and winners is final. No correspondence relating to the awards will be entered.
15. Each of the winners will receive a BBC Radio Leeds Inspirational Teacher 2015 certificate. The overall winner will receive an additional Award. There are no prizes, no cash alternative and the award cannot be sold or transferred in any circumstances.
16. Nominees must agree to take part in any post-award publicity if required.
2 17. Nominees may be asked to disclose details of any and all criminal and civil actions pending against them, or served against them plus any unspent convictions. Entrants asked for this information must keep the BBC informed of any changes to that disclosed up to the point the winners are announced. This information will be handled in the strictest confidence and will all personal information in accordance with the BBC Privacy Policy.
18. Following standard industry practise, the BBC may undertake background checks of the shortlisted finalists. Information discovered or that may have been disclosed by the entrants themselves will inform the decision as to the selection of the winners.
19. Winners and their nominators may be recorded with the intention of broadcasting those contributions on TV and radio as well as using them on all other platforms including online. The winners and their nominators will be expected to confirm consent to this in writing by signing standard contributor consent forms (or their parent or guardian signing on their behalf).
20. The BBC reserves the right to: (i) vary these Terms and Conditions, including but not limited to the opening and closing times of the awards nominations period; (ii) disqualify any nominee who breaches the rules or has acted fraudulently in any way; and (iii) cancel the awards, at any stage, if in its opinion it is deemed necessary or if circumstances arise outside its control.
21. The BBC, its sub-contractors, subsidiaries and/or agencies cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction, problems with postal collection or delivery, internet issues or any other problem which may result in any nomination not properly registered.
22. It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that their video can be viewed during the lifetime of the competition (including the judging). The BBC can take no responsibility for the unavailability of the service chosen, nor can the BBC take responsibility for any uploaded content should it break the terms and conditions of that video service.
23. Any personal details provided will be handled by the BBC in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. The BBC will only ever use your personal details for the purposes of administering this competition. Your personal details will only be kept for as long as necessary to fulfil these purposes. 24. Where relevant, these awards accord with the BBC's Code of Conduct for Competitions and Voting, details of which can be found on the BBC'S Standards and Guidelines website at www.bbc.co.uk/competitioncode
25. The promoter of the awards is the British Broadcasting Corporation and these terms and conditions are subject to the laws of England and Wales.
