Minutes for Finance Council St. Mary’s Parish, Westphalia April 28, 2016

Members Present: Jon Thelen, Bill Nurenberg, Doug Spitzley, Bill Irrer, Trina Witgen, Jarrod Thelen, Chad Hengesbach, Geri Pennell

Members Absent: Greg Martin

Also Present: Father Eric, Mary Enneking, Darren Thelen (school principal), Dean Weber (Nelson Trane)

Call the Meeting to Order: Chad Hengesbach called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.

Opening Prayer: Father Eric led the opening prayer.

Approval of Agenda: A motion was made by Bill Nurenberg and seconded by Bill Irrer to approve the agenda. Motion carried.

Approval of March 17, 2016 Meeting Minutes: Minutes were reviewed and a motion was made by Jon Thelen and seconded by Geri Pennell to approve the minutes as written. Motion carried.

Old Business: Darren Thelen provided updates regarding the school. A new part-time (8 hrs./week) secretary has been hired. The school will be hiring 3 new teachers for the 2016-2017 school year. The remodeling of the school bathrooms is to begin June 8, 2016 and be completed by July 4, 2016. Work is being done to revive the Fr. Al Miller Trust Fund.

Dean Weber discussed the option of a service contract with Nelson Trane for the boiler. A motion was made by Doug Spitzley and seconded by Jarrod Thelen to approve a 3-year service contract with Nelson Trane for $2,500/year (with quarterly payments of $625).

Reviewed options for salary increases for the 2016-2017 budget. A motion was made by Bill Nurenberg and seconded by Doug Spitzley to approve a 2.5% increase in salaries for the 2016-2017 budget. Mary Enneking will update the 2016-2017 budget and email it to council members. Council members will review the 2106- 2017 budget options for further discussion at the next meeting.

Reviewed the updated capital improvement and maintenance list compiled by Mary Enneking.

Mary Enneking will provide an update on the outstanding school tuition at the next meeting.

New Business: The March 2016 financial reports were reviewed. A motion was made by Geri Pennell and seconded by Jon Thelen to approve the reports. Motion carried.

Next Meeting: May 26, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Office.

Words from the Pastor: Father Eric asked for continued prayers for the parish and for the Diocesan Capital Campaign that will be coming up.

Adjournment: Bill Irrer made a motion to adjourn and Doug Spitzley seconded the motion. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Closing Prayer: Father Eric led the closing prayer.
