President S Report Year Ending May, 2010

PRESIDENT’S REPORT YEAR ENDING MAY, 2010

The 2009-2010 Skipperette Year was busy, informative and eventful for me. Beginning in Sept. thru May monthly meetings were held the first Wed. of each month. Board meetings were held the third Tues. along with the Knotical News being published each month, which kept our members informed as to what was going on. The Obligation for membership and the Installation Ceremony were updated by the committee to be presented a little more smoothly. Our programs were entertaining and informative including a visit by the author Richard LeMeaux who lived and wrote “Breakfast at Sally’s”, a fashion show, and a program on “Hospice” and our special Christmas Wine, Cheese tasting and silent auction. Our Skippers’ Night in April was enjoyed by a gourmet meatloaf and a slide show of memories to some to the Broughton Islands in Canada. We welcomed Steve Brett, Paul Smith and Sam Throm who were elected to the ranks of Skupperettes. After receiving their aprons they were invited into the galley to wash dishes. Raffles were presented at each meeting, which is a good source of income. Monthly birthdays were acknowledged, lettuce bowl drawings were held, and cards were sent to those needing cheering up. Skipperettes continued making lunches for the BYC work parties. After attending the E-Committee meetings presenting a request for work party time to our ladies, the Commodore relayed to us that the by-laws for work party time could not be granted, however we could earn points for doing the lunches for the year 2009-2010. We helped the Special Peoples Cruise by feeding the participating boaters and the high school basketball team who helped and continued our participation at Heavy Weather weekend by bussing tables at the breakfast. New Members night our Historian and Computer Chairpersons made a beautiful wine basket to raffle and had information and history available for the new BYC members. Skipperettes donated $195.00 to the Youth Sailing Scholarship Fund. We inducted 3 new members this year and presented one member her 25 yr. pin. Two of our P/P passed away this year. The Ladies Bunch for Lunch with an average of 6 to 10 getting together and traveled to Poulsbo shopping, Sumner for the museum and lunch at the Secret Garden Tea House, Tacoma Art Museum, Peninsula Gardens and lunch at the Blazing Onion. The Tacoma Holiday Food and Gift Festival, Uwajimaya in Seattle, and the Fireside Bistro at Olympic College were also enjoyed by all that attended. As the WIC Rep Alt. I attended 3 Board Meetings and 5 extra luncheons including our own Skipperette Luncheon. Lynne Rumbold and Skipperettes did an outstanding job with the theme “Phinney Bay Downs”. Beautiful flowers, hand painted race horses, Irish Stew and decorated hats galore made it a very special day. Beginning 2011 P/P Gerri Bachman will start through the WIC officers chairs which will be a very busy 3 year commitment. This has been a year of making new friends and companionship for me. To quote a P/P, “We have worked and played together, shared with and listened to each other and fully exemplified our purpose.” It has been my privilege to have served as President and I want to thank each Skipperette for the support given to me.
