Cold War Webquest

Introduction: The 1950's saw the beginning of the Cold War. Soldiers returning from World War II were settled and working. Some were drafted to fight in Korea. The atomic bomb, rather than "saving mankind" now posed an even bigger threat. Russia and other communist countries had the bomb! What were we to do? Gain a sense of the times - listen to this newsreel. (It takes a few seconds to load, please be patient!) Cold War Webquest

Task: Working with a partner, you will research a topic related to the Cold War (listed below). One of you will act as a photojournalist, locating photos and pictures representing your topic; you will also be responsible for the layout of your project. The other will act as the reporter, locating important information, recording it, and answering some important questions. Both of you will remember to cite your sources. A good reporter responds to the following questions:  What occurred?  Who was involved?  Why did it happen?  Where did it take place?  When did it take place?  What events led up to this? Was there anything that may have prevented or precipitated this event?  Would a different leader have handled it differently? How?  How did the US react to this event? How did other countries react to this event?  What was the result of this event?  How did life for the "average" American change as a result of this event? The PhotoJournalist is responsible for:  Locating appropriate pictures that represent their assigned topic.  Saving those pictures to the correct drive (H: or X:, as instructed).  Communicating with the reporter to ensure the pictures are appropriate.  Designing the layout for the team's web page.  Importing the reporter's answers to the above questions and saving them to the web page.

Process: Use the resources below to locate information for your project. You may also use a Search Engine to locate information on your own. Remember to cite your sites. Save pictures by selecting the picture, right clicking and selecting "Save picture as". Save to your H: drive. You will create your web page using WORD. Save it as a web page with the topic name and your initials as the file name; for example "berlinAirLift_jd". Remember: NO SPACES allowed in file names for web pages. Using the information and pictures you find, create a web page that represents the researched topic.
