ISDN Phones: Cabling Specifications
The following wiring specifications have been approved by Adelphia Business Solutions ABS) and are those being followed by the Contractors employed by the Bureau of Commonwealth Telecommunications Services (BCTS) to assist with the transition to ABS.
Wiring from the nearest IDF (wiring closet) to the telephones should be a minimum of Cat 3. o If new wiring is being installed, Cat 5e is highly recommended. The runs from the closet (where the ISDN NT1 will be located) to the telephone jacks should not exceed 250 feet. The cord attaching the phone to the wall jack should not exceed 33 feet. Jacks should be RJ45. All four pairs should be terminated according to the T568B standard - at both ends. o The only exception is if the building is already predominantly wired to T568A. (The “A” standard will suffice, however, ABS prefers the “B” standard) Punch-downs should be a minimum of type 66. o 110 blocks are preferable and is ABS’ standard.* Patch panels are acceptable as long as they are a minimum of Cat 3. o If new panels are being installed, it is recommended that they provide a minimum of 50% more ports than are actually required at time of installation. The Main Distribution Frame (MDF) should be a minimum of type 66 punch-downs. Note: Solder frames are unacceptable for ISDN.
* PA Team 110 blocks will interconnect to agency 66 blocks at the MDF for analog and at the Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) for the ISDN lines.
