Information relating to potential risks and hazards associated with your production must be provided with your technical information. Strategies to control or minimise the risks to DAEC staff, patrons and performers are required as part of this information. Anything in the form that is not applicable to your event please write “N/A” in the appropriate space. Do not leave any areas blank as we will assume you have not read it.

1. STAGE PLANS – If applicable Please show positions of all scenery and props on a stage plan (or plans) with a legend. You can print a scaled stage plan from the website www.darebinartscentre.com.au. If you have a particularly busy production or concert you should use a separate plan with a legend for each major act. Please designate the stage position of all musicians, and identify placement of music stands, microphones (if known) lecterns, banners, rostra, screens, etc.

2. RUNNING ORDER A detailed running order (or cue synopsis) is essential for any variety concert or corporate presentation. Your running order should include a brief description of each item or speaker, the estimated duration of each item and any specific lighting, sound or staging requirements. Your running order should include a generous margin to enable the theatre technicians to make their own notes.

3. INDUCTION & PROVISION OF A RISK PROFILE DOCUMENT. A client induction will need to be completed with your Production Manager and Stage Manager or the people filling those roles. This Induction covers OH&S policies and procedures of DAEC and can be passed on to other members of your Company by these people. If you have not already delivered your Hazard Report Form this is an appropriate time to do so. On the day of your event, rehearsal or bump-in you will be given a physical induction tour of the theatre, backstage and foyer areas. The person giving the tour will emphasise the responsibility you have to inform your cast and crew of our policies and procedures.

APRA Australian Performing Rights Association (copyright licensor of permission to play recorded music) Audio mix position The position in the theatre where the stage sound is controlled. Amps - Ampère The unit of electrical current flow. Amplifier An electronic device that amplifies sound signals to a point where they great enough to be heard through a speaker. Auditorium The seated area in the theatre.

Backstage In proscenium theatres, the area behind the proscenium arch. The term also refers to such areas in non-proscenium theatres and to any part of the stage not in the acting area during a performance. Bump-in/out The process of moving all of a company's equipment in/out of a theatre. This includes scenery, props, lanterns, costumes and so on. Back line Musical equipment generally used behind the performer/s on the stage.

Comms Closed circuit communication system used in theatres/venues for the crew to talk to one another.

Data Projection Using a video projector to display computer, DVD or VHS images onto a large screen. Dressing rooms Used exclusively by performers for changing, makeup, showering etc. Dimmer Electrical device which controls the amount of electricity passed to a lamp and therefore the intensity of the light. Dimmers are normally numbered sequentially, and the numbers shown on the Lighting Design next to the relevant lanterns. The dimmer is controlled from the Lighting Desk via a low voltage control signal. Dimmer Rack A set of dimmers in a single case. Dimmer room Where the stage lighting power is distributed. DS Down stage towards the audience

Fly line A long specialized pipe that holds scenery or lights attached to the counterweight system. Flown 'Flown scenery' has been attached to the counterweight system and is able to be hoisted into the Flys. Foyer The area next to the theatre where patrons wait before they enter the auditorium. Fold Back Audio speakers located on stage so that the performers can hear themselves and or other sources of sound required to synchronize the performance. Follow spot A manually operated spot light with a beam which can be directed to follow an actor around the stage. Also Dome, Limes. Flys 1) The space above the stage in which scenery, lanterns and so on are hung invisible to the audience. 2) The counterweight system. Fog Machine Generally means a device that uses dry ice to produce a fog like effect. Not to be confused with a smoke machine.

Hazard Anything that has the potential to cause injury, illness or property damage. Hand held A radio microphone i.e. no cord attached Hazer Used for producing a non toxic haze of smoke on the stage. Not as thick as a smoke machine. Used for highlighting lighting effects. House curtain The main curtain that covers the opening within the proscenium arch. Headset unit A headphone and mic that connects to the comms system. (See comms)

Lifting equipment Fork lift, pallet mover, block and tackle etc. Lapel units A tiny microphone that is usually clipped to the persons lapel or clothing near their chest for speech. Lighting desk Controls and programs the stage lighting.

Mirror Ball A large ball covered with tiny square mirrors Moving lights Automated lights that change colour, direction and project various shapes onto the stage.

OP - Opposite Prompt The right hand side of the stage as viewed by the cast. Also Stage Right, Camera Left.

Plate mic A contact mic designed for specific applications usually for tap dance, under the lid of a piano etc. shaped something like a plate – flat and square usually. PA Public address system Par cans 1000 watt lamp used for a wash (a spread of light). Gel frames for colour are fitted to the front of the lamp. Production point Central position in auditorium where lighting/sound and show control are available. Pyrotechnics Decorative fireworks. Any chemical effects used onstage or in the wings to create explosions or special effects. 0f4dafb15f5ee119affc672d2ae69d58.doc Page 14 of 15 Phase One stream of 240 volt (Aust) electrical supply on one fuse or circuit breaker. Proscenium Arch The archway which separates the stage and the auditorium and frames the acting area. PS - Prompt Side The left hand side of the stage as viewed by the cast facing the audience. Rigging points The point on the fly bar or scenery where the load will be connected. Rigger A person qualified to supervise or carry out fixing and moving/lifting of heavy loads.

Risk The likelihood that exposure to a hazard will result in injury, disease or damage. Radio mic A microphone that has no lead attached. (See hand held)

Shot gun mic Long barrel like microphone used for picking up point sound sources. Send An output from an audio desk independent of the main outputs. Used to connect equipment like effects units and feed sound to the stage for fold back etc. Also known as Auxiliary Send. Stage Manager (SM) The member of the production team responsible for the smooth running of a performance. Before a production opens the Stage Manager attends rehearsals and meetings with other members of the production, and in smaller companies is often the coordinator of all of the various aspects of the production. During the performance the Stage Manager, using a copy of the script annotated during rehearsals, cues the actors and the various technical departments. On larger shows this last function will be performed by the Deputy Stage Manager. Stage managers desk PS Stage Managers desk Prompt side. The position where the SM coordinates the performance. Stage Door The door to the theatre through which the cast and crew enter and exit the theatre. Not the public entrance to the building. Strobe Lighting unit giving a fast series of very short light flashes under which action appears frozen. Smoke Machine Used for producing a non toxic cloud of smoke on the stage.
