Far North Queensland regional student workshop

If you have submitted an entry into the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art 2017, you are invited to register for a workshop in your region. The department will meet the cost of this workshop.

The workshop details are as follows:

WHEN: 10 am – 4 pm, Saturday 2 September 2017

WORKSHOP VENUE: Tanks Arts Centre, 46 Collins Avenue, Edge Hill

WORKSHOP: Graphic marker illustration

DETAILS: Participants will be introduced to basic techniques and skills involved in using graphic marker pens for illustration. They will be introduced to various papers and markers (including Ironlak Strikers & paint pens) and shown how best to use them to create a finished artwork. Participants will also be shown the processes involved in blending and mixing mediums to create varying artistic effects.

ARTIST: Cherie Buttons is a self-taught artist from Brisbane. She has been creating artwork her entire life, but started working fulltime as a freelance artist four years ago. Cherie’s work is highly influenced by Japanese pop culture, bright colours, the female form and her surroundings. She produces illustrations across several artistic mediums including traditional works on paper and acrylic paintings on canvas, as well as more modern forms of production, such as digitally drawn vector images and street art murals painted with aerosol. Cherie often travels for her work and her art can be found on walls in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Cherie finds painting larger scale murals most satisfying and also finds time to paint her own 'legal' walls in her spare time. Apart from spending time on her own practice, Cherie also enjoys facilitating art workshops and tutoring others as well as participating in live art activations. In the past year she has had two solo shows, one in Sydney and the other in her home town, Brisbane.

TO BRING: Food and beverages are not provided. Please bring your own snacks, lunch and a water bottle. The materials students are required to bring to the workshop will be confirmed before registrations open.

TRAVEL: Parents/Guardians are asked to cover the cost of travel if you live within 60 km of the workshop venue. For those who live further than 60 km from the workshop venue, the department offers a travel subsidy. Please contact the program manager to determine eligibility.
