As a legislator, what will you do to change that?

The shutdown of nuclear facilities in the state, including the Millstone plants and the secure disposition of new and spent fuel rods in conjunction with the repurposing of military contractors to retool to create solar and wind alternatives, as well as utility-grade surge protectors (see below).

Short of doing this as soon as possible, nuclear plants should be provided with enough back-up generator fuel to ensure a safe cold shutdown in the event of a super solar storm, which, according to findings of NASA and NAS presented before Congress last year, could disrupt the electrical grid for years if not addressed between now and sometime in 2013. Were the nation unprepared for such an incident (comparable to what happened in the 1890s and in 1920), every nuclear plant in the country could begin melting down simultaneously). However, surge protectors could protect electrical utilities from such an event, but have yet to be built in sufficient quantity, domestically.

These solutions would generate local jobs, while ensuring a safer, cleaner and independent alternative for CT and serve as a model for other states.

Part 3: If you are elected and you could choose only one environmental issue to address, which ONE of the following issues would be your priority for the 2013 Legislative Session?  DEEP Funding  Pesticides Rollback  Mattress Recycling  CRCA  Transportation & Mass Transit  Pharmaceutical Disposal  Water Conservation  Other (please describe)  Riverfront Protection  GMO labeling  Toxics (children) Please see above Explain Why: However dramatic it sounds, I feel if we do not prepare adequately for a coronal mass ejection event, the impact to industrial society would be so severe, nothing else would matter.
