THE HAPPENING EXPERIENCE Can Christianity penetrate the reality of a teenager's world today? Can the modern youth turn on to Christ's love? We think so. Happening proposes no new type of spirituality, but does provide a method through which one's spirituality may be developed, lived and shared in fellowship with Christians willing to dedicate their lives to God in an on-going manner. INSTRUMENT OF RENEWAL The Happening experience is a powerful instrument of renewal in the church. Its aim is to concentrate closely on the Person and teaching of Jesus Christ. Happening gives those who attend the desire to understand and serve the Church. What's more, it provides a means to continue the Christian formation that begins during the Happening weekend. NOT A RETREAT A Happening can only be made once in a lifetime; therefore it is not a substitute for a retreat. During the weekend the teachings of Christ are discussed in an open setting of joy and happiness with informal discussion and song. Happening is not a retreat but a spiritual renewal method. STAFF Happening is basically put on by teenagers. The few adults present will be cooks, chaperones, or those there to be part of Happening also. There will also be a pastor there as Spiritual Director. You will be fed, housed, and challenged the whole time. You will be accepted for just who you really are by a bunch of people who aren't afraid to be themselves. FORMAT Registrants need to arrive promptly at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. After room assignments, introductions, and ground rules, the weekend theme develops with the keynote address "Reality". The changing nature of material and social reality is compared with the permanent nature of Spiritual Reality - a firm foundation on which the teen can build a secure life.

Spiritual REALITY is found through FAITH in JESUS CHRIST lived in a relationship of PRAYER nourished by the CHURCH. The theme closes with a talk on the application of Spiritual Reality in the real WORLD and the APOSTOLATE talk calling for the Happeners to make a friend, be a friend, and bring a friend to Christ.

Included in the schedule are small group discussions of each talk, worship, prayer, songs, games, and fun. At 1:00 on Sunday, parents, friends, and parishioners are invited to attend a reception. After retrieving their belongings, the new Happeners leave the Happening event about 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

You will never be asked to do or say anything embarrassing or against your principles. You will meet some great friends who are looking for answers to the same problems you face in school, family, dating, and in everyday life. You will find what their answers are and may find some answers for you yourself!
