Welcome to Microsoft Office Specialist! This program introduces the student to Office 2013 covering Microsoft Office Specialist objectives for Word 2013, Excel 2013, Access 2013, and PowerPoint 2013 while emphasis is placed on employability and leadership skills through independent learning.

All students will sign up for college credit and if they earn a B or better grade, they will receive this credit in July 2017. Our goal is to have all students prepared to become Microsoft Office Specialist Certified. Certification tests are available to students at Curtis High School at no cost to the student.

Daily work is expected to be a learning experience, and mistakes will obviously be made while learning. Points will be earned based on the accuracy of the work and the projects completed. All class work is to be completed in the lab; work done at home will not be accepted as all work needs to be completed in the computer lab and saved to the server.

The computer lab is open during both lunches and you are urged to use this time to make up any work missed or if you are behind. After school access is by prior arrangement. Handing in work that has been copied from another student/source, will result in zero points for that assignment. Completing work for other classes during this time will result in points being deducted for daily productivity.

All points will accumulate throughout the semester.

Participation/Activities 15% A = 93%+ C+ = 77 – 79% Classwork 75% A- = 90 – 92% C = 73 – 76% Tests 10% B+ = 87 – 89% C- = 70 – 72% B = 83 – 86% D = 60 – 69% B- = 80 – 82% F = Less than 60% Classroom Discipline: The Computer Lab is a learning environment and students are expected to behave accordingly.  The use of Cell phones are not permitted.  Eating and drinking is not permitted; you are to refrain from eating at the computer.  Computer trespass is illegal and will not be tolerated. Students found to be accessing other computers and files will be reported to an administrator.  Students found to be using the Internet without the teachers permission or using the Internet for non-educational purposes will lose the privilege of having Internet access and this will impact their final grade.  The Code of Conduct is to be strictly adhered to.

Dual Credit Pierce College, Tacoma Community College, Clover Park Technical College and Bates Technical College offer Intermediate Office Application credits, which are transferable to 4-year colleges, for this course. Students will need to consistently achieve a B as well as attend class on a regular basis. Participation Participation in this class includes but is not limited to the following:  Attendance If a student is absent and misses a warm-up activity/micropace drilling, they forfeit the points for that day unless it is made up immediately on their return to class. Unexcused absences will result in participation points being lost. Five class absences will result in a drop in grade and a letter to parents. Seven absences will result in a letter stating that the student will be dropped from class if there are any further absences. Eight absences equal 33% which means that the student has missed a third of the classes. A student cannot be successful if so much time has been taken off.  Being on time Being tardy to class is unacceptable and any student who has five or more tardies will lose participation points. All students need to be in class and ready to work immediately.  Being on task The time is this classroom is for my subjects only. Any student found to be doing other classwork, no classwork or sleeping during this time will lose participation points.  Classroom Behavior Any behavior which detracts from the educational process is unacceptable in the classroom and students who are deemed to be misbehaving and disturbing other students will be dealt with severely. This will include parent contact, sending the student to the Administration and possibly removal of the student from the classroom.

Classwork This is all work to be completed during class time and handed in on completion during the class period.

Tests If a student has to miss a test or final examination it will have to be made up outside of class time, either during lunch or after school. Not taking the test within a week of the student’s absence will result in a 0 grade.
