Intermediate Weaving Who is the course for?
This course is for anyone who has completed the Beginners Rigid Heddle Weaving with us, or is an accomplished weaver.
How is the course organised?
Our theme is to explore the use of dyed yarns in weaving. We will dye warps (ikat) and skeins (rainbow and even) for use in garments. Indirect warping will be used.
You will work a number of “samples” that will be projects such as table mats and scarves, as the theme is introduced and extended. We will extend our weaving knowledge looking at: warp – faced – ikat and cushion cover Balanced cloth with mixed warp incorporating ikat and plain stripes – balanced cloth using a fine yarn and 2 rigid heddles scarf or shaft loom. Double cloth using ikat top and plain bottom – table runner/mats.
You will go on to design and make an item of your own choice using one of the techniques.
You will need your own loom, either rigid heddle with the capacity to use 2 heddles, or a shaft loom. Talk to Kate Horner if you need guidance upon buying a loom.
