Nook Simple Touch GlowLight

Narrator:

This short video introduces some of the features of the Nook Simple Touch GlowLight that might be useful to a reader with low vision

There’s no text-to-speech available on the Simple Touch, so you do have to be able to see the screen in order to be able to use it.

The initial screen that comes up showing the library of books can be altered in a number of ways. One of which, the list view, gives quite large text and that might be useful to some people who don’t appreciate the pictures of the book covers with the small text underneath.

The other changes that are available are made once you go into a book. The other settings are available by tapping the middle of the screen to get a menu up at the bottom of the screen.

I can change the size of the text by choosing one of the A buttons that come up, and if I just close the menu so you can see the effect that that has on a book - you can see the text is quite a lot larger.

I can also choose a particular font such as Helvetica which is a sans serif font, or Trebuchet. Both of these are a bit larger than the default Caecilia font.

It’s also possible to change things like the line spacing and the margins. It is not possible to change the justification, and it is also not possible to change the orientation of the device.

The last thing I can change: the way the eReader is set at the moment, it needs a light – a lamp or the sun – in order to read what’s on the screen. But by pressing and holding the N button below the screen I can turn on the GlowLight from which it gets its name. And, once that light is on, when I tap the screen I can vary

I hope you found this very short introduction to some of the features of the Nook Simple Touch GlowLight useful.
