Knowledge is defined as skills acquired by a person through experience or education.

Grades are standardized measurements of varying levels of comprehension within a subject area.

Knowledge and grades are both key drivers to be successful. One needs knowledge for one’s life times. Grades are important during one’s school years. So far as my studying, I try to pick both: knowledge and grades. I need knowledge to continue my life. However, as a student, grades are more important for me. I need high grades to prove I work hard, get more job opportunities and transfer to my dream colleges.

Good grades mean one works hard. No one can get high grades without working hard.

One credit hour requires two or more preparation hours. If one doesn’t prepare for courses, he/she will get nothing from the classes and not understand what the professor talks about and what classmates discuss. For example, my sister, Sue is not exactly an intelligent person, but she makes high grades because she’s one of the hardest workers in school. Think about that, if one prepares well for courses and finishes all homework immediately, he/she will feel comfortable in classes, become a member of discussion groups and will not fall behind. Finally, one will get high grades when one prepares for courses and works hard on the course. Grades encourage students to learn. Meanwhile, a good grade tells people how hard one works.

A good grade helps students get more job opportunities. In modern times, people are getting hired based on their degree and GPA, not based on their knowledge. A report shows that two students who graduated from the same school in the same major interviewed for the same position at a company. The company hired one of them who had the higher GPA. If one gets high grades, one will be more competitive in the job market. In addition, schools have hired students to work on campus, such as tutor’s assistants. However, one job requirement mostly is

“GPA above 3.30”. If one doesn’t have a good grade, one will lose the job opportunities. For example, my friend, Juan is a student who is good at English. She got A’s in English courses.

However, her math is not as good as her English. Her GPA is 2.8 because of her math scores.

She wants to be an English tutor’s assistant on campus, but she doesn’t reach one of the requirements “GPA above 3.30”. Think about that, one will lose job opportunities without a good grade.

A good grade is useful for students to transfer to their dream colleges. Students know that a high GPA is one of the key drivers to enroll and transfer to the top colleges. Also colleges offer scholarships to students who have high GPAs. Anybody who gets high grades is, in some sense, a winner of the school system. For example, my friend, Ling is a student in New York

University. New York University offers him a scholarship that covers his whole tuition because of his 4.0 GPA.

Taking all mentioned above into account, knowledge and grades are both important in my life. However, as a student, I need a high grade to prove I work hard, get more job opportunities and transfer to my dream colleges. In this semester, I will work hard and I wish to get both: grades and knowledge. In some sense, good grades and knowledge come with studying hard.
