Assignment: Short Stock Pitch Date Due – Wednesday March 23rd
In this assignment, you will create a short (2 page) stock pitch. Stock pitches must be typed, not handwritten, on a standard sheet of letter sized paper. You are free to get creative in terms of the format, layout, etc. But remember, you cannot be less than 2 pages and no more than 4 pages, and the font must be 12 point. The margins should be 1 inch all around.
This is a PITCH, including some brief analysis. You should be able to give this to a portfolio manager and have them read it with a thorough understanding. There should be a clear but brief argument for why we should be going long (buying) this stock or going short (selling) this stock.
Some criteria on the stock that you choose: 1) The company must be a LISTED EQUITY (no derivatives, bonds, pre IPOs, etc) 2) The company must be traded on one of the following exchanges (New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, American Stock Exchange) 3) The market cap of the stock must be over $250 Million 4) Stock must be liquid (do not pick a stock that trades only a few thousand shares a day) 5) You must have an actionable recommendation on the stock that you choose – either BUY or SELL. Do not choose a “Hold” rating.
At a minimum, your stock pitch should include the following: * Company name and ticker * Index membership (S&P 500, Russell 1000, etc) * Description of what the company does * Price chart (1 year…unless you feel that another time period is more relevant) * Summary of Key Financials (Market Cap, Dividend Yield, EPS, Ratios, etc) * Comments on Valuation * Price Target (for example, a 1 year price target) * Industry Trends * Peer Group * Investment Thesis (why should one buy/sell this stock) * Upcoming Catalysts (what is going to make the stock move) * Risks
You should include an additional page to cite the sources you used for the pitch.
See the exemplars for guidance on what to include.
