2015 BOYS VOLLEYBALL SPORTS INFORMATION BULLETIN

The official boys’ volleyball season for the CIF Los Angeles City Section is scheduled for the period of Monday, February 2, 2015 to Monday, May 4, 2015. First allowable contest is February 13. Teams qualifying for playoffs may continue to practice until eliminated. Practice on a holiday is not authorized without prior approval from the School Principal or Commissioner. Schedules can be obtained at the website www.cif-la.org on the volleyball page or at www.maxpreps.com.

VOLLEYBALL COACHES MEETING

A mandatory meeting for all volleyball coaches will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at 4:30 p.m. at Sotomayor High School. Refer to the Section Gold Book regarding attendance at the coaches meeting and the penalty for failure to attend.

RULES

All games will be played under 2014-15 National Federation rules. Consult the Section Gold Book for additional rules relating to volleyball. The home school must provide an adult who will, at all times, be in charge of scoring and timing. Rule books can be viewed on the Section website: www.cif-la.org. Click on the officials’ dropdown at the top of the home page, and then click on NFHS Rule books.

Varsity matches shall be the best three-of-five games. Junior Varsity and Frosh-Soph matches shall be the best two-of- three games. Rally scoring will be used for all games. Schools that offer Junior Varsity and Frosh-Soph are required to indicate this on their Sport Confirmation Sheets submitted to the Section Office.

Home teams will provide a suitable number of official game balls for each contest. Home school must ensure that the NFHS authenticating mark is on all game balls. The Molten “super touch” volleyball must be used in all playoff matches. Home teams must provide visual scoreboard for scoring, as well as provide the official scorekeeper and libero tracker, when a libero is used by the home team. If only the visiting team uses a libero, the visiting team must provide a libero tracker. RULE CHANGES

All coaches must be aware of Section rules (and changes) as they pertain to student eligibility, school responsibilities, and the sport of volleyball. Please refer to Rules and Regulations Governing Interscholastic Athletics (Section Gold Book).

OFFICIAL BALL

For competition in the sport of volleyball within the CIF Los Angeles City Section, it is recommended that the red, white and blue Molten Super Touch volleyball be used during the regular season as it is the required ball for the playoffs.

PRACTICE

CIF Bylaw 506 allows for 18 hours per week of practice and no more than 4 hours per day is allowed for practice. Games will count for 3 hours toward the total practice time allowed. CIF does not allow practice, meetings, or any contact on Sundays. School site administration will determine if teams can practice on Saturday or Holidays.

All volleyball games will begin at 2:30 p.m. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. All schools should check opponent’s schedule for details. Warm-up time between the Junior Varsity and Varsity matches WILL BE NO LONGER than 21 minutes.

GAME LIMITATION

CIF Bylaw 1302 - in the sport of volleyball, teams are allowed a maximum of 22 contest per season per level (not to include Section or State playoffs). Students that are moved from one level of competition to another are not allowed to exceed the 22 game limit or play in multiple levels against the same scheduled opponent.

TOURNAMENTS

As per the LACS Board of Managers action (April, 2010), all sports are allowed a maximum of four tournaments per level. Schools are allowed to reach the 22 game level by any combination of scheduling non-league, league and tournaments. Tournaments will count as two (2) games when they meet the restrictions as set in the rules and policies regarding tournaments in the 2014-15 Gold Book.

OFFICIALS

The officials will be assigned by the officials unit assigned to the league. Playoff and championship officials will be approved by the Section Office. Please submit officials’ evaluations via CIF Home to provide the Section with current information on officials’ performances to determine playoff and championship assignments.

INCIDENTS AND EJECTIONS

The Section Volleyball Officials’ Liaison, Myra Einberg, will be responsible for investigating all incidence and ejections. If there are any incidences that need to be reported to the Section, please email information to [email protected]. All ejections must be processed on the CIF Home website by the athletic director.

MaxPreps is the “Official Digital Media Partner and Statistician” of the CIF Los Angeles City Section. Our partnership with MaxPreps provides all member schools with a streamlined process to submit information for important CIFLACS initiatives. In order to accurately manage these important initiatives, the CIF LA City Section is directing all coaches to update their stats and scores on MaxPreps throughout the season.
